Getting farm chores done when you have a baby - any tips?

I used a baby carrier to hold the little one on me while I did work.

Here's my update. I got my Ergo baby carrier w/the infant insert in the mail and it's terrific. But currently, it's not terrific for farm chores. It's 3 degrees F today, she still doesn't have 100% head control so I have to move carefully, the carrier is great but it still makes things awkward, all adds up to me not going out to the chicken coop with the baby yet. Plus I don't like to take my clean baby in my clean baby carrier into the chicken coop!

But the Ergo does let me get indoor chores done, so when she's asleep I'm not running to catch up on indoor chores quite as much, leaving me more time to run outdoors and do outdoor chores.

DH and I have tried 2 different systems for him watching the baby while I do outdoor chores. 1)He rings the dinner bell when she gets hungry and 2)We use walky talkies. He doesn't even say anything on the walky talky, just puts the crying baby on the walky talky and I come sprinting in.

Here's what I know so far: I will have no freedom to do involved chores that take a lot of time until I get her to accept a bottle so DH can feed her. I am exclusively breastfeeding, and so far I have pumped and offered a bottle and she says "No way! I want the real thing!" so we'll have to work on that. It is driving me crazy because all of my coops need cleaning, and each coop takes about at least 3 hours.

As for her refusing the bottle have you tried changing the bottle/nipple type? I had to for mine. They liked the Evenflo bottles with the I believe Classic nipple? The other styles would gag them.​

And when the little one starts 'crawling' or 'rolling' off the blanket - time to buy one of those folding pens for toddlers. They fold out-and-in like an accordion, stand about 30" tall and have netting in the middle so you can see the kids thru them. It's lite-weight and can be set up or moved in seconds. It opens up to about 6' x 6'. I had twins and we used this 'corral' like crazy. Sometimes we 'corraled' the babies for protection, other times we 'corraled' the Christmas Tree, or the fireplace - whatever needed protection at the time! The 'babies' are 25 years old now, and I am at this very moment using the same 'corral' in my house for a Silkie needing some meds. Looks kinda crappy after all this time, but it has been the best piece of baby equipment I've ever owned!

Come to think of it, I may ask for a new one for Christmas!

i exclusivly bf too. and yep had trouble getting stuff done that took time. to get her to take the bottle (at least for me) is go Do your stuff and leave her with daddy, once she figures out the milk is in the bottle she will drink from him, IF your not around. if she can Smell you, its over. i went back to work and dh gave our dd bottles, she took them till i walked in the door and once i was laid off, she refused the bottle again. she is #3 bf. i used the bouncy chairs so she could watch me in the garden in the spring time or if i was doing dishes. hanging laundry it was the backpack or whatever (never could figure out slings) but luckily for the chicken cleaning and mowing the grass, i have a kid old enuf to "babysit" haha.

oh, and one thing, just be sure dh Does know how to give the baby a bottle, mine didnt, but didnt want to admit it when we had our first. ....

i am definately an out doors person and babies were with me the whole time.. just spread a comforter under a tree and they will watch the leaves for hours on end.. just feed and diaper like you would anyways.. also i have a swing and a corral that i would put them into as they aged.. they love watching you.. but the comforter is the best.. they can touch the grass and pick things lol. try putting them to bed under the christmas tree. my kids 28& 30 and grandkids still lay under trees on comforters wether inside under the xmas tree or outside on a comforter under the trees, or stars..enjoy that baby!
