My goaties are off being bred right now, or, well, they have been bred, but they are still over there. I miss them so much. They were both bred to a cute little guy (Nigerian Dwarf) who is chocolate colored with brown eyes! They are now 12 days pregnant! I should get them back sometime really soon, but I’m not sure exactly when that will be. Ugh, I wish I had them back already. I can’t wait to have them back.

How exciting! I’m still waiting for my dummies to go into heat 😂
Hopefully soon! :fl

My giant 12yr old myotonic wether has started acting week and isn't devouring everything in sight like he normally does. Any advice on how to encourage him to eat more? I'm going to try honey in his feed. He's been sick. Had pinkeye and then got sick on top of that, it's been very cold (teens- 20s at night) and I'm worried he just old and done with the winters.

Awww, sweet boy....

Is he drinking? Electrolytes mayb help? Is there something extra tempting for him? His rumen making happy sounds?
He has access to fresh water but I didn't notice him drink today. I do have emergency electrolytes I will have to find. I've only had goats 6 months or so and I'm not versed with how he should sound like exactly, hes had foamy bloat off and on so im going to say its probably not great, he hadnt been foamy in 2 weeks though, he's a rescue ive had for just a few months, all my other goats are 50 pound Nigerian dwarves, hes my big guy, hes huge. His breath stinks lol which I know is supposed to be good. 😬

I know you can tube feed goats, but I can't imagine he'd go for that. And he's not at that point, anyway. I know hydration is super important for rumination. You might try the electrolytes if his lack of appetite has been going on for a while.

Good rumens sound like tummies sound when digesting - lots of movement, lots of growling sounds. He may not have a happy tummy after the foamy bloating.

Grass/hay is good for this, but only if he'll eat it.

Lemme see what else I can find out.
