gold laced silkies?(UPDATED PICS PG4+9, plus pics of new 2nd hatch ??)

Yea, your Polish roo is a mix, of what I don't know. As for your frizzle, she was molting when you got her and frizzles always look worse when they molt.

Thought so, well I will see what happens with this hatch, I have been thinking maybe he had issues with housing when I got all these, and seeing as the little polish is pure, I am hoping the eggs in the bator will also be..... I am not happy, if they are all mixes, I will be taking them all back to him in a box.... yeah the frizzle is doing really well now, I was concerned when I first got her, as I had never had polish before... But she is really coming along a treat... is she a pure? or is she a mix also?? if so I could sell them on as polish x.. pair.............

The last lot of silkie eggs I got from Ebay hatched out a Guinea keet! The woman finally admitted after lots of messages she may have got my order mixed up, lol.
Yours look a lot like my liitle silkie x chocolate orpington chick I also got in the 'pure silkie' order apart from the colouring maybe he was crossing a gold laced orpington with a silkie to create a new colour? Just looked at the website again and the gold rooster looks to have straight feathers.
I f you live anywhere near Nottinghamshire I have lots of lovely pure breed chicks you could take your pick of obviously not the ones from Ebay though, lol.

Its so annoying isnt it, when you get something totally different than what you ordered.... yours was a very different.... a Guinea keet?? I bet you were annoyed, did you keep it?? I have heard they are really noisy... so I settled with a turkey... or what I think is a turkey lol.....

I will keep these chicks but wont use them for breeding, as I am not one of these people who could sell something to people as one thing, when its actually something totaly different.. I am on a mission now to be the only person arpund my area who sells proper pure bred chickens or hatching eggs....

Wow nottingham... I live on the outskirts of skegness, never noticed where you were from before, not to far apart
big_smile.png

P.s do you think the little polish is actually a polish... not holding out much hope ..........

Wow it's a small world I took the kids there last week for a day out. Your polish chick definitely looks like a polish

. I opened a dispute on Paypal about the eggs I received as at first I thought I'd been had with cross breed eggs, she wanted me to take the chicks back to her in Wales for a refund it was only £6.99 so not really worth the drive! I ended up Emailing pics of the chicks and she finally admitted one looked like the chocolate orpington cross silkie she bred. Then she went on to say it was probably a mix up as her son had died recently and she wasn't thinking straight, I felt really bad for her and dropped the dispute. It was only last week I was told it was a keet as it has really bad splayed legs and I asked someone for their opinion on how best to treat it. it did look like an odd chick a it has really short feathers on its head and a different looking beak. It's only 2 weeks old I'm not sure what I'm going to do with it at the minute it looks likely it may have to be put down as it's little legs are so bad but I'm going to leave it for a few weeks to see if strapping them has had any effect.
Its so difficult to get eggs that you know for definite are pure breed as people can be so dishonest. Either way you still got some gorgeous little chicks you never know it might be next years must have chicken

I agree about a small world, I am glad I have at least 1 pure, its a start lol..... I really hope the chicks in the bator are also, as the ones I have which should be silkies and are def not, I just would not be able to get rid off, it was our very first hatch ever lol.... fingers crossed day 11 today

Oh I would have felt bad also, if that was said.... I cant really go and say much about these chicks as he gave the eggs to me to try out the incubator, the ones in the incubator was payment for one of my male runner ducks, as I had 4 males out of 6... and 2 males turned out to be hybrid, which I have to get rid of, im just thankful I got 4 pure runners... but still annoyed at the people... dishonest people I agree with, there are many. I was thinking back to this man when I went, and like I said before, all his chickens were housed seperatly... but maybe he could of let them out each day for an hour or 2 all together... I did point out to him when I was there that he had 2 hybrid ducks with his runners... the next time I went these ducks were gone...

Oh I hope your little keet makes it. Yes you never know about next years chicken.. lol I could have buyers in the way of paris hilton, ect lol

lol, I can see it now all the celebrities walking around with a chicken in one of those handbag carriers.
The little Keet died
sad.png
His leg got really bad it looked as if it was dislocated so probably for the best it's strange how attached you get to them.
Maybe it was a genuine mistake on the man's part if he didn't know his ducks were hybrids he probably didn't know about the Silkies.
Keep me posted if you do get your pure breeds set up, I'm starting a little hatching service, as I don't have room for too many of my own birds will need a reliable hatching egg source. At the minute I'm aiming for a pen of Serama's and one of miniature silkies as I reckon I can get away with having a cockerel in those breeds without the neighbours complaining so I should have some of those eggs come spring if you need any.

Oh im so sorry about the little keet, but like you say probably best for the little one, I had a runner duckling which I think now had dislocated hips, I splinted, and fed it by hand, which kept it going, but the splints sadly did not work, I had to get someone to put it down... I got so attached to that chick forrest, it would nuzzle my face and rub its head on me just like a cat does. I always get told not to get to attached, but thats not possible.

Yeah special chicken handbag carriers, and could you imagine the little diamond encrusted outfits that would be designed for them

Do you know what?? I think we are onto something

I am going to see whether this new hatch gives me pure breds, if not I will message him, and mention my concern that his chicks are hybrids, the parents of these birds are all pure, but I think maybe his setup needs looking at, as the different breeds are getting to each other. Eggs in the bator are due to hatch a week tomorrow, candled all egs last night, usually dont do it until day 18 before lockdown, I know I am bad..

but good news all 12 are doinggreat

Fingers crossed they are pure, I will need everyones help to confirm this, as I am new to these breeds, but hey we have to start somewhere lol. And I have started to learn so much from everyone on BYC, its an amazing site.

I will for sure keep you posted, and once I have pure good quality chickens I will be glad to be a source for you, I have decided that these are the breeds I want to focus on, so if the next hatch is no good, I will be starting from scratch next spring with a certain pure line, so I may need to call on you (if you would not mind
big_smile.png
) Miniature silkie? wow now thats interesting, I will keep that in mind.

Is it to early to be able to tell what my silkie chick is crossed with???

Oh and the eggs in the incubator are due to hatch tomorrow, I think 10 out of 12 are good, an early quitter was one of the silkie eggs, and one of the silver laced polish eggs, but I have still got them in the bator just to make sure, the others are rocking and I have heard some cheeping

lets see if these are pure or mutts
