Goldilocks is one jerk of a freeloader because....?

Hmm, my golden fluffy butts are likely hatchery stock, since I got them this past spring at a local, family owned feed store. (That place has better conditions than either Murdochs or TSC and actually care about the chicks) They're lovely birds and adore my husband. I can walk right up to them, pick them up, check them over, minimal complaints. They sit in his lap, funniest thing to see. He wants me to progressively phase out the other birds in favor of buffs.

Maybe your Dad just got the short straw? Lol. Butter ball soup, ha! Almost choked on my soda.

I have 6 Orpingtons. Hatchery Buffs. I have noticed they have a tendency to be conservative with their energy. On average I got 4 eggs out of my 6 hens daily. Far from a production breed. I've heard some people will keep quirky hens like the one you describe for broodies.

Also, I started getting more daily eggs out of my hens by feeding them a single morning feeding of soaked layer pellets (not even fermented). Not sure why, but it seemed to help their egg production and attitudes to take away their free access to food.
