GOOSE BREEDING THREAD - for breeding, incubating, hatching and rearing.

I have 36 chickens on my 1/2 acre back yard mostly free range. The pair of geese are free as well, and sleep in the shed and I "herd" them in at night. On occasion I've seen mr. Goose give a little nip to a chicken to get the treat. Nothing serious.

The chickens don't hang out with the geese. They don't seem to mind eachother.
Your going to have to supervise till you know the babies and adults have bonded, once that happens like psue said the chickens will have to watch out for the geese because they will not tolerate the chickens getting close to those babies. And if you have chickens loose and haven't had any problems with hawks hopefully the 2 gosling won't bring them in especially with the 2 adult geese watching over them, but we all know when we free range out flocks there could be problems.

I've been letting them out a few times now. The adults are upset because the goslings pay them no attention. At one point I walked away and 4 goslings came flying after me!! So I guess I'm mom!

Hubby doesn't want them out loose til they stop peeping like a baby. But I will be sitting out with them and letting them run around.

Well that´s because they´ve imprinted on you, but there´s no reason why they shouldn´t accept the older geese as part of their flock. Just spend time with the adults and the babies together as much as possible. They´ll peep like a baby for quite a while yet!

Oh my gosh how precious..

Thanks. The breed lines are whatever Metzer's hatched that day, LOL. They are most likely production Toulouse. I was just really surprised about how fast those Buffs grew.

Thanks for the advice on the imprinting and being in a flock. I didn't know how the imprinting would work out.
With the peeping, I never had a hawk problem, but a few years ago, I had one Polish chick that was 4 months old, and put her in a pen for a few hours and she was killed by a hawk. Hubby said the peeping must have attracted it. Mostly the hawks don't stick around because I've got lots of crows. Only thing with the crows is that they have been going in the coop and taking all my eggs.

I thank it is that time of year for the Crows to feed their young as I also have lost a great deal of egg's to them and it is the first time I have cough the crows in the coop getting egg's but for the most part I have to leave them alone as they do keep the hawks away and probably saved many of my chicks and pullets from a early demise .....
