Hi I got a two week old Embden gosling(out of 10) that overnight developed issues walking . It just sits there and if it tries to walk I falls over and just flails around. Could this be a Niacin issue? They are outside during the day in a 8x8 hoop coop and at night they go in the shed in a covered brooder.
I am sort of car less stuck at home and I am out of supplements and on the last savachick. HOWEVER, I have one bottle of 5hour energy. it has 30mg Niacin per serving, 40 mg Vitamin B6, 400mg Folic Acid,500mcg Vitamin B12 (as Cyanocobalamin), 18 mg Sodium, along with some other stuff.
Oh and I got the gosling in the house now in a small box so I can keep an eye on it.

This is happening to my gosling too (out of 8)!! I have been feeding it Niacin and B-vitamin supplements through the water for three days now (started on Monday). No improvement. It has lost all balance and cannot stand or walk without falling over onto its back (primarily the left side). It is completely healthy seeming besides from this problem with clear bright eyes, eating and drinking fine, I am feeding it grasses. So my question is this REALLY niacin deficiency? It seems like that's the general conclusion, but I have second thoughts.

Hi, most times niacin deficiency is the reason for this problem. are you giving enough, do you think? Or even too much? I give it in the form of Brewers´Yeast. And it does seem that if you don´t catch it soon enough, you´ll lose them. There are, of course, other problems that can arise, but they´re not as common as the niacin deficiency. Usually they recover very quickly by adding niacin, so maybe it´s a different problem for Root66. Goslings can get a problem where they flip over, too. There´s a recent thread here somewhere that has about a different nutrition problem, I´ll try to find it.

Well, I found the other thread, but the symptoms aren´t the same as you have there. Mainly, it´s down to niacin deficiency, or there could be some infection, in which case you could give antibiotics, or/and, give a general mineral tonic in the water. Are you feeding a little of a prepared feed? And are they on good grass, with some romaine lettuce, peas, dandelions, etc? Leg problems are generally to do with some mineral deficiency or other, and at times can be just one of those things.....

How is your gosling now? Has the tonic helped a bit?

well the gosling is inside right now. It's resting and drinking but still has balance issues. i found two more packs of the electrolyte Savachick , i also crushed multi vitamins up.. as for the grass outside. its mixed bluegrass, dandelions, clover and assorted weeds.. the hoop coop will be moved tomorrow.

Clover´s good, so is soft, lush grass, (I don´t know about bluegrass), romaine lettuce, pears, too. Some just seem to have more problems than others with deficiencies. Niacin deficiency will make it weak, not able to stand, boney...at this stage, you should be able to save it with niacin. then it progresses to fits. Your original description did sound like niacin deficiency. Niacin is so important, and 2 weeks of age is about the time it usually shows itself.

I'll go and get it some "ditch" grass/clover later. For some reason right by the roadside is the most luscious grass, grows like crazy and huge. Must be full of good stuff.

Well the gosling didn't make it. Last night I noticed that the soft skin under its lower bill had a small tear and was inflamed. THis morning it was still alive , but the skin tear was from the tip of the lower bill to where the fuzz starts and the leg joints started to look enflamed. The balance didn't improve either. No need to keep bothering with it and so I put it out of its misery.
