Ok ive a question byc buds
How long can a goose egg go without being watered since im trying not to open the incubator while 8 are in lockdown so i wont have a chance to mist my eggs so im wondering will they surive five or 4 day without misting ?! :/

If you are keeping the humidity up for the others that are hatching, they will be fine. I know some members on here run a dry incubator (no misting and no water in the bator itself) for the entire incubation and only add it for humidity at lockdown. They all have successful hatch rates.

After the one incident where I did a cooling/misting period for six hours straight (oops) I stopped misting mine completely. They were only in week 2 when I stopped. But they turned out just fine, apparently! And my incubator stayed around 25-30% humidity during that time, until "lockdown".

Which wasn't really lockdown, either. I merely filled the other trays in the incubator with water. But me and my darn grabby self had to keep candling them every day. Go figure!

Did I ever mention why I named them Miracle, Hope, and Wonder? LOL!

yes misting is just part of making sure they lose the required amount of weight

Do you sell/ship eggs?

I have never tried to ship goose eggs and would have to see what my fertility rate is. I just started shipping chicken eggs this year. It's a nerve racking business.

I'm horribly addicted to candling. I only stop after they are internally pipped and talking to me... as long as they don't get into trouble.

This is the first time posting on the goose thread. I have two geese hatching at the moment. I know this has probably been asked but. Do geese imprint when they first hatch? It would be cute if they would follow my wife around lol

They do! They imprint on their parents and also their siblings. My goslings are most likely imprinted on me, and my first ever gosling definitely was. She followed me around outside while I did chores.

I am in love with the ganders! I've never had one before, and they are such sweet babies. I will have four geese least and five if the one that's still in the egg turns out to be a girl, so I will be able to keep them both.

I am really worried about the one still in the egg. I decided to try to help it today since it was day 37 and it had done nothing. When I pulled its head loose and looked into the shell it wasn't done absorbing the yolk so I tucked it back in and wrapped it a wet paper towel to keep everything moist. But something seems to be wrong with its eyes too. I'm just not sure if this one will make it.

Thankful that I got my first batch to hatch in spite of my incubator jumping all over the place. I managed to still get 5 Shetland Geese to hatch, but lost one , found it dead in brooder 2nd day, it seemed to not be thriving. I also managed to hatch one live African so far out of my yearling females. I have 6 eggs in lockdown also and another batch in other incubator. And to top it off I have 2 females trying to set on same nest...they are 2yr olds. so we shall see. Their nest is in a goose shed with ventilation and on a mat,with straw....so I am adding fresh grass to try and help with humidity...be their first hatch. I have 3 pairs, although one male is just a yearling and I had to move him from the older 2 gandars about a month ago because they were attacking him too much...
These are from Holderreads and it took me 3 years to get these 6 , (lost 4 others at different stages). The population is small so if they make it and thrive it's good. The Super Africans I got for fun, but showed and won with a female which I sold, but have her 2 daughters, so I have a trio. Someone said I should breed some because they are hard to find in the SE...so I am breeding a few to see what I get, to sell and show. He sells from his show line only.... I did have another African hatch but didn't survive, he was upside down and I had to help him pull out of the shell half, yolk all absorbed I just found him stuck with his bottom half out, flailing ...so perhaps he lacked oxygen too long....
Now if I can figure out again how to post pics or maybe from my Iphone that would be great!
