Got a question, wondering if y'all can help?
@casportpony
and any of y'all who can answer:
My neighbour has a hen that received injuries from a dog. She does not have any large flesh or (from what I can tell) internal injuries, but her foot appears to be broken- Swollen around the centre and she will not put any weight on it, instead using her wing to hop around.
I cleaned her up, splinted and wrapped her leg, and made her as comfortable as possible. We'd like to give saving her a try, as she is their favourite hen. She eats and drinks well and does not appear to be in shock which leads me to believe she has a fighting chance.... Anything else I can do for her?
Somewhere in my travels around the internet I saw Aspirin can be used for a pain reliever in chickens. Is this true? If so, what dosage and how is it delivered? Thanks.....
I had a pullet that survived a coyote attack. She had punctures and internal injuries, as well as a dangling leg. Long rehab short, I kept her in a small cage for a few weeks, then a big cage for a few weeks. Then I put her in the tractor for a month with a gentle friend. The tractor have her "chicken practice" with flapping, scratching, running. She went back to the flock and was fine til a dog killed her.
Thanks!! She's in a rabbit hutch w/ food and water right next to her.81 mg aspirin once a day for pain. I have done this before. I have heard prednisone for inflammation but wouldnt know dose. As camping said, keep confined with food and water close to keep her off her foot .
So glad you guys are getting all settled inGot DS off to school this morning - really hoping he has a good day. DH and FIL went and picked up the new-to-us couch this morning at the re-store (gosh I love that place) so now I have to figure out how to re-configure the living room......two weeks in and I'm already re-decoratingI think I just need to invite my MIL over, she re-does her furniture several times a year so she'll have it all figured out in no time.
Have to admit, I am *really* looking forward to tomorrow - DS will be off to school and DH will go to work, it'll be the first time I've had time all to myself since July!!!!! I'll probably do something really exciting like mop the floors, lol..
Thanks!! She's in a rabbit hutch w/ food and water right next to her.
