Thanks for posting this newfie. No she doesn't. She's mostly feathers. Looking closer now, I think it's feathers on her feet but they're thin.![]()
Does yours look like this?
No teens around unfortunately. Feathers on her feet look kinda feathery to me but almost like hair. I really don't know how to describe it. They said silkie but I'm not so sure. Wish I could post pictures. All other feathers on her are feathers. No I didn't know that other breeds carried silk feathers. I must be the dumbest person on this site lol. She has some black feathering around her neck and tail and the rest is kinda cream or light tan color. She's beautiful to me. She actually seems a little smaller than my white leghorn.
Silkied feathers look like hair. She should have that all over her body. It is a recessive trait though, so if you cross a silkied bird with a pure smooth feathered bird, all the offspring will have smooth (regular) feathers. Also, Silkies are a bantam breed, so yup, sounds like a cross.
Silkies have 5 toes as do Salmon Faverolles, so that can be a clue to the breed. It can be bred out in a couple of generations though.
And NO, you are NOT dumb. We're not born knowing this stuff. I've done a lot of reading and still only know a small amount compared to some people. There are breeders on here have been working with poultry for over 50 years. Amazingly knowledgeable.
Lol you got that right newfie. My better half thinks I'm nuts for wanting to go outside while my chickens are free ranging and watch them. Secretly I'm protecting my girls because I'm scared the roo won't do as good if a job as I can. Can't tell her that though. She's already jealous of my favorite hen lol. Beautiful chick btw!!Roost we are enablers. If we get lots of others addicted to chickens then we don't look so weird. Lol
Yeah I'd be totally lost without everyone on here.you are not dumb roost..just have to learn..i don't know much about them myself..but the ones on here do they have had a lot of different breeds..
R too. Funny thing is,that's my favorite time of the day. I'd love to let them free range all the time but something would get them around here.Thanks. I thought she was pretty cool. I want to cross her with a polish.
I find watching the chickens and ducks very relaxing. And hysterical sometimes. Lol
and if you do cross her with a polish, please post pics newfie.Me too. Funny thing is,that's my favorite time of the day. I'd love to let them free range all the time but something would get them around here.
