Try spraying the spots she chews on with a solution of something nasty tasting might stop the gnawing. Like tabasco diluted with water.
Good idea. I'll have to find something bitter for her, though. She's one of those piggy dogs that would eat herself to death if she had a chance. I can see her enjoying tabasco-flavored hind end.

I've been spraying on generic Bactine antiseptic with lidocaine. Haven't tasted it cause I don't want my tongue to go numb! She's due for her Benadryl dose, so hoping that will knock her out for the night.

Poor dog !! I would be questioning the why instead of the how. easy, dogs are carnivores . they are not lamb and rice dogs they are lamb and chicken dogs. they can and do eat anything but its not supposed to be that way. Thank you for the well wishes. very bad day yesterday. I knew the pain was still here but i wasnt expecting all that. Your mom is your greatest asset . its a big blow when she is gone not like dad. at least not for me. And twisted , I know what you mean about your dad. My mom died when my sister was murdered in 08. she just never recovered. She still had smiles and even a laugh or two but she just was never the same. Saturday she will be gone 7 yrs.

Spring is here and I know because my big dog is chewing holes in herself. I noticed last week the skin on her back legs getting a thick, kind of swollen look, which is a sign the trouble is coming. Checked her all over, no holes, and started her on Benadryl. Well, the night before last, she chewed on her back end, which I am treating, and last night, put another sore on the base of her tail.

Guess it's another vet visit for us. Past 3 or 4 years she has ended up with huge abscesses, and I haven't found a good way to prevent it. I think those cone-head collars are cruel for long term, but it's also cruel to put her through more surgery to clean up the infections. We'll see what the vet says.
Ah, the joys of a dog with allergies. My GSD, Ziva, is a hot too -- I have spent more on medical care and medication for her in the past year than any of the humans in the house and noticed last night that it's time to make another appointment as she is in full flare courtesy of something that has decided it needs to bloom or whatever in the past week. So, back to trying poking 11 pills a day down the hatch - she wised up to my peanut butter trick two rounds ago, still falls for a spoon full of canned cat food on most days and on the bad days it's 'pry, poke, repeat' to get them all down. I'm a darn good "piller", but this dog manages to challenge me. It's a very good thing I love her so much. Food allergies would be so much easier to deal with - just adjust the diet, environmental and seasonal allergies are a huge PITA!

Oh, Granny - so many

to you for all of it. Do you remember the old "Calgon, take me away" commercials - I swear, it seems you live in Calgon moments. I am so sorry about your foot.

to all who will be spending this Mother's Day weekend missing their mom.

Granny, ducks are like chickens. They eat pretty much everything. Green grass or lettuce or duckweed floating in her pool will get gobbled up. She'll eat insects and small animals if she can catch them. Not much for meat off the bone, but I think it's more because they can't pull it off as easily as a chicken. Hope your appointment goes well and you get some relief.

Our ducks had a particular liking for our neighbor's flower beds, lol....needless to say 24 hours after being notified about this by the neighbor the ducks were fenced onto our property. Funny, Judy duck laid, but we never ate the eggs. I think I have a mental block about eggs other than chicken eggs, IDK.

@twisted-acres-farm - sounds like you need an adblocker upgrade - I think I asked (and you may have answered, my memory sucks) before what browser you use as chances are there is a free product that would be able to clear up the ad issues you are having here.

thank you ol mare, I do remember those calgon moments. hahaa I even tried it a few times. they didnt take into account that the ones that need it the most are generally unable to get in and out of a tub. like myself. I have a garden tub. soaking sounded so nice and in therory it would of been. except for the fact that once i was in, I couldnt get back out. very embarrassing to have to ask someone to pull me but i did . by the time i got out the water was just a little cold.
