Ah, the joys of a dog with allergies.  My GSD, Ziva, is a hot too -- I have spent more on medical care and medication for her in the past year than any of the humans in the house and noticed last night that it's time to make another appointment as she is in full flare courtesy of something that has decided it needs to bloom or whatever in the past week.  So, back to trying poking 11 pills a day down the hatch - she wised up to my peanut butter trick two rounds ago, still falls for a spoon full of canned cat food on most days and on the bad days it's 'pry, poke, repeat' to get them all down.  I'm a darn good "piller", but this dog manages to challenge me.   It's a very good thing I love her so much.  Food allergies would be so much easier to deal with - just adjust the diet, environmental and seasonal allergies are a huge PITA!
I have used hunks of hot dogs to shove a pill into for my daughters dog. She was a Master at finding the pill in other goodies, but she like the hot dogs so much she never chewed, swallowed them whole. Hope you can find something that works for you Ol mare.

Was 23 years for my mom's passing,  she was 52 and I 28 the oldest of us 4 kids.  The extreme pain of her passing is gone but still miss her terribly.  Lost  Dad 4 years latter  but in all honesty we buried him the day of mom's funeral  he was 62 at that time.
That's so sad twisted, way too young for your parents deaths. What a huge responsibility that must have left you with being the oldest of 4 kids. I will be keeping all of you who have lost their Moms in my prayers for Mother's day.

Glad I got a smile on your face. :) I made six and a half dozen for teacher appreciation at my kid's school, but the family whined until I held back a couple dozen for us. I've been counting calories and dutifully hands off, but I had a little dough yesterday. That's the only way to know if they're turning out right! :D

You're safe - I am pretty sure it's been scientifically proven that there are no calories until the dough is heated in the baking process

The dough is the best part (I feel that way about bread dough too) - I have one recipe in particular that my daughter will ask me to make while she is home for a visit from college and she takes the whole batch back, unbaked and frozen, so she and her girlfriends can gobble it up.

I guess i will tell this story. I am not proud of it but it is a part of me. few yrs back a beagle dog showed up at my house . she was very wild and scared. she had been hit by a car. her foot looked mangled and she was starving. I called the dog catcher and they said they would only come if the dog was contained. I tried to make friends for a week or more and it was going no where. In the mean time i could see the foot getting worse. I could get about 15 ft. from this dog and no more. Mom had some tranquilizers from the vet so i gave it one in a hot dog. next morning it was back wanting more. Its foot had turned gangrene. I could smell it from where i was. I gave the dog a whole pack of hot dogs and 15 pills. moms dog took a half of one . followed the dog for hrs. she just wouldnt give up. next morning, back for more hotdogs. she has a belly on her at this point. I gave that dog 10 flexarils . strong muscle relaxers of my husbands. It took 3 hrs befor she slowed enough that i could put a lasso on her. (if i was a cowgirl i wouldnt of needed the pills) anyway, I get her in the backyard and call dog catcher again. he says, shoot her. I argue with him for a few before he says he will come and get her. He walks to the fence and stops in his tracks looking at the dog. then he starts cracking up. he says, You mean to tell me you cant shoot a dog but you can dope her up so bad she dont know if she is coming or going? and she is pregnant at that. ummm, I didnt realize it showed but it was the first thing he noticed. I will always feel bad about that because i know he put her down but that leg needed to come off and i couldnt do it.

you eat raw bread dough ol mare ? cookies are my all time favorite warm from the oven . the dough i like is brownie .. fudge is my favorite anytime i can get it Twisted makes some mean fudge and his caramels are awesome !!! never had home made before. I could eat that all day long !!!

That's so sad. I had one come up years back, an old, gray-faced pit bull. Cropped ears and everything. She was skin and bones. I dumped out a huge pile of food for her; she just sat with her head in my lap, wiggling all over. The vet was a good friend and I took her over to get a quick checkup and a rabies shot. I was determined she'd finish out her life with us.

Heartworms.

They were so bad he didn't have to do the test, he could just see them under the slide. Treatment wasn't an option for either of us, so I had her euthanized. It still bothers me. :(

You have such a good heart, Granny! Don't feel bad - you may not have been able to do it yourself, but you DID take a lot of time and effort and put it towards getting her to someone who could do it, you could have just as easily turned your back on the whole mess. I do understand the frustration, though. Last spring we had a cat (maybe 6-7 months old) turn up at the house (I swear, there have to be signs at both ends of our road instructing any stray that passes that direction to proceed directly to my back door) who had a horribly injured tail - like the dog it had become gangrenous and OBVIOUSLY needed to be amputated. I called AC, but it was after hours on a Friday - apparently AC is M-F business hours only - but they did offer to send a deputy out to "dispatch the animal" for me, or I could wait until Monday and AC would come get him. I opted to wait - for that weekend the little guy was loved on, fed and had good days.....Monday AC picked him up. I contacted the shelter later that week to check on him and was told they had euthed him, I was kind of sorry I had asked as I think I'd have rather just not known, but at least I know he had a couple of really nice days in his short little life.

well, I still dont know what i could of done differently. had i known she was preggo i am sure a pill wouldnt of crossed her lips. maybe leading to a slower death. if i could of made friends , if , if . If a frog had legs he wouldnt bump his @ss every time he jumped.
