Looks like everyone's been busy the last few days - sure gets quiet around here when we all go off to our offline lives, lol. Hope all are well!

Yes indeed Ol Mare, very, very quiet. Missing my granny girls sense of humor.
My experiment with a first time broody didn't go well. She has been on again off again these past 2 weeks. She finally stayed sitting so I put 4 eggs out of the bator that were due to hatch today under her. On the end of day 18 I tacked hardware cloth over the nest box to ward off any troubles. If it worked and she hatched them, my plan was to move her & the chicks at one time. I had tried moving her to a different location, but she always freaked out and went back to the same nest box. This morning I woke to see a egg laying in the chicken yard. That never happened before, rushed out expecting to see a preditor had gotten in the coop and freaked the ladies out, but thankfully it wasn't that. The broody hen was freaking out in the nest box and that was scaring the ladies. She was trampling all over the 4 eggs trying to get out. I let her out and I could hear peeping in a couple of eggs, but no external pip yet. I rushed them to the house and into the incubator. Hopefully they make it. Dummy me won't try that again lol.

I'm only on page 531. Don't thin I will ever catch up. I feel like I know all you on here. Read about your chickens and your life. I've cried a lot. But laughed more. Granny. We have a lot in common. I really can't stand to wear a bra. But no problem. Here. Nothing much to hold up

Welcome to BYC and to the Granny Hatchet variety show!!
Have to agree on the bra issue - that is the FIRST thing to come off after work and Heaven help the person that does something which requires me to put a bra back on to leave the house once it has come off.

Today's episode of "No good deed goes unpunished" - Ran out at lunch to grab something quick to bring back to the office. Pulling into my parking spot back at work I noticed a bunch of LBB(Little Brown Birds) hopping and fluttering about in the bushes around the spot. Most flew off, but one just looked odd the way it was sitting in the bush. As I watched he/she started fluttering and it was clear something was amiss. Being the softie that I am, I put down my lunch and purse and went over for a closer look - turns out the little one had gotten it's foot/leg stuck and, when trying to follow the others as they took off, had made it worse - by this point it was hanging upside down by it's leg and was fairly well tangled in the plant to boot....there was no way it was going to get itself loose. Reached in to secure the bird - got bit for my trouble - got ahold of the little buggar and set to work trying to move the bird with one hand and manipulate leg and plant with the other - and, of course, the patient was oh-so-cooperative, lol. Finally got LBB loose and, in the process, was bitten once more AND pooped on for my troubles.

Sounds like it was totally worth it. :) Thank you for sharing this.
