So, Miss Brahma "I Think I'm Broody" from earlier is back at it - and she is fully committed to it this time around.....all around bad timing and *I* was ready to steal the small dog's crate over the weekend and break her - then DH goes and says, "Why are you doing that?  I thought you wanted more birds.......can't you let her hatch some or get her some babies?".  REALLY?  This man is no help, lol.  Ultimately, I don't think I can get what I want right now without paying an arm and a leg for small order shipping (the birds came to $11 - the shipping was $37!) and no one immediately around me has any eggs - plus those come with the risk of getting a bunch of boys - so I'm really trying to just stay strong and stick to the plan of not adding anything until next spring.....but that man just had to go and plant the seed........:he   Who was it here in the thread that had mentioned possibly having some SS eggs before????Was it you, @campingshaws

I sure do have SS eggs! I've never shipped before, though.

My marans hen has gone broody again. Tuesday I gave her 6 eggs. Yesterday she had 11! So I have to make her a broody suite now, away from everyone else.

The 21 babes from my last hatch.

Lisa, sounds like you had a mess today. I hope the little ones hatch for you. :fl   Think i pushed my humor up with my hemorrhoids on that mower today.
For Gods sake you must have saddle sores from 8 hours on the lawn mower lol. Pretty sure its the first peace you've had since the last time you mowed. Can't hear a thing when on the mower, no babies crying or kids fighting. I would want to now grass everyday haha. Out of the 4 eggs I took from the broody this morning ~ 1 has hatched & 2 are pipped. Dumb bird kept getting back on the nest and growling at me & the other birds. After shoeing her out of the nest 3 times I put her in the broody buster cage.

Now I have a new issue with my broody momma that is raising 11-3 week old chicks. She has been an awesome momma to them except for the first week when only after a couple of days she decided that she wanted to roost up on the brooder box and leave the little ones to fend for themselves on the floor. Started turning on a lower watt heat bulb for the nights because we were still getting cold nights. With the approaching hatch I needed to move momma & littles back out to the broody cage to free up the brooder for either the hen I was hoping would hatch & raise them or for brooding them myself. Mind you our weather has been all over the place. Literally we have been in the 80's one day and the next day its been in low 40's. Momma has had those babies outside every day since day 3. In fact its amazing how much faster they feather out being raised with momma verses the brooder. My 3 week olds look like they are five weeks old with the amount of feathering they have already. Its probably a good thing, this morning I opened the broody cage up, it has a ramp down to a covered grow out pen. Everybody came out but then momma started to get real nervous. Her flock mates were singing the egg song in the next pen over. Then momma started going in and out of the broody cage leaving the chicks in the grow out pen. Today is overcast, misting & 54 degrees out. I went back to cleaning the coops, but when I came out of the last coop here are all the babies huddle in a pile in the corner trying to get warm, Momma is not is sight. I started putting babies back up in the brooder cage to get warm. Went around the other side of the cage to be able to open the big door and find momma. Well momma was nervous because she needed to lay a egg. I can't believe the babies are only three weeks old and she has started laying already. Does this mean she might abandon them all ready?

Lisa !! congrats. yes, its time for mama to leave the chicks. she lasted longer then normal i think. Ol mare, I have wanted a pond since i moved here ! I was threatening to dig it myself and i still think i could have when we first moved here but not now. Of course i didnt realize there would be maintenance. I know you guys have seen a change in me lately. I have seen it myself. there are reasons behind it and for the first time i am not sure if i should or could post. I am very unhappy with some things my daughter is doing and it is causing me a lot of stress. She did get her tax refund yesterday and they are out house hunting. I scored today. Took my SIL and oldest GS to a house to buy a dog kennel. It is 2 of them. and 1 is 10x20 and the other is 10x10. they are in good shape and it cost me $100. I dont know yet if i will use them or resale. I can double the money or i can make a place for the seramas and i wont have a hard time with them except for water. My hose wont reach. Thoughts??? keep or sell the seramas and the pen. I still dont think i am able to do it all. @Ol mare, U want some mixed eggs????

I am getting charlie horses right in the arch of my bad foot !!! Its pulling my big toe down to where its almost touching the bottom ! OK, maybe not that far but pretty far. My father would of told me to put my shoes under my bed upside down. Does anyone have something better that might really work?

Drink a bunch of water, sip on pickle juice or eat a few bananas!!! :D

LOVE PICKLES !!!!!:weee   Thank you Mrs. B
Eat a couple of bananas, usually your body will cramp when your potassium is low. I was having horrible charlie horses in the back of my thigh couple nights ago and we were out of bananas. It was a really long night. Sorry about the problems in the home front granny. Its so hard when our grown children make decisions we don't agree with. I know from experience how easy it is to get resentful, when your doing everything you can to help out. I'll keep you in my prayers hun :hugs
