I wouldnt want to keep something in a wire cage their whole life. I mean, my chickens are in a coop and run and thats the same thing but they have tons of room to wander and dig in the dirt. all wire is just not cool. I liked your set-up LoKo. A lot of people wouldnt even think of that.

Thanks Granny

I try to keep my birds happy, I cant see something suffer.

Why I started keeping birds is factory farms

I have read that quail can get some disease if you keep them on the ground shared with chickens. I have seen people keep them in little tractors on the ground, but no chickens. Of course I can't remember what the disease is, or if I've even got the info straight. Blackhead maybe?

This is true.

Its in the soil, Not all will get it.

But a CLEAN cage, is the healthiest way to keep them.

If I saw a nasty cage, it may accidentally come open......

wishing, I remember you talking about that heating pad. thats pretty great idea hanging it like that. I am going to see if I have some wire hangers. Not sure I have any more...

I tell people when I see stuff like that. I cant help it. TSC had a huge bin of ducks and their water was bone dry. I told her because stuff happens right ? wrong ! that thing had Never had water in it. It didnt "just run out" like she claimed.
This just doesn't make sense cause all of the hens and roos were free range. She had one big dog that was loose on the property and one that was tide up. She had four goats in a fenced area.... I thought maybe quail couldn't handle the rest... although, I am against tieing dogs off.

Quote: That's how we got our 2 bunnies. Lady had so many in dirty cages. Like 40 and they were all filthy. Felt like we were rescuing them.

Most people make a wire frame and put the heating pad across that, but the Seramas are so small, this was easier. When they jump on top, they smash the top of the tunnel down. I added a second hanger and spaced them out with a stick taped between them to keep them spread apart. Now that the Seramas are soooo HUGE, they have been smooshing my tunnel down. There is a thread with different ideas that is really good. I'll see if I can find it.

What did you do with the ducklings?
