enola, I had read that first post already but i hadnt seen any of the responses. I agreed with about the first half of the op but his solutions were over the line to me.
 
wishing, what is that white hen thats farthest in the back ? looks like no comb. are your swedish not giving you eggs or you want to keep them to hatch right? what will they sell for? I am wondering how you can get 20 dollars for a laying hen and people around here sell them for 5-6 dollars? it would pay to make a trip !!!
 
I actually have a roo right now i am not sure what to do with. he is a sizzle I think !!! not sure what he is because of red comb and i think he has 4 toes. he is a good breeder and a lovely guy. he "talks" all day long. calling the hens. Problem is, i have him in a brooder cage because mighty might thought he would whip the new SFH . he did draw blood. as much as i dont want to get rid of him its not fair to keep him by himself. all the hens are twice his size. Really not enough of him to bother with cooking and he is at least 3 yrs. so I can understand how people become attached to some roosters. but i have no problem culling the sick or aggressive ones.
 
I hope thats not true about Eddie Murphy, I dont think he made a movie i didnt enjoy watching. I dont know a good web site from a fake one.
 
this is true but i still want to be considerate. I got my answer last yr. when i was talking to the closest neighbor she asked how many roos i had. I asked if the noise bothered her and she said no, her husband and herself enjoyed sitting outside and trying to identify the different ones.

The farthest back is one of my orpington pullets. I got a few eggs from the sussex, but none since I added the white hens to the flock. I think it was stress first, and then the pox. Now that they're all in the same coop, I think it's stress again. The white hens really disrupt the harmony of the flock. I thought maybe they'd all settle with time, but no luck with that.

I've never paid more than $11 per bird at auction, and I prefer much, much less. My first five speckled sussex were $9 each, then we sold two at auction for $20 each. I'd picked up five little barnyard mixes at a feed store, $4 a piece, and as two pullets and a cockerel they brought $10 each. So we've had good luck. The roos usually go for just a few dollars, but even ugly, poopy, or heavily treaded hens go $15-20 or so.
 
sounds like you got the hook-up. i have never been to a chicken auction before. bet they are fun. Is that where the pox came from?
