i gave UNAble some more egg yolk. he didnt take too much. I tried taking a look down the gullet and i cant see a thing. the widest its mouth can open is about 1/4th inch. i tried putting a drop of food in the mouth and sure enough he started panting so i stopped. I make sure he drinks after because that yolk is some sticky stuff. it looked good enough to eat. I am just kinda at a loss as to what else can be done. as far as i can tell the crop is empty and the bottom end too. I may be just dragging out something not meant to be.

Poor little thing. I keep hoping he'll just dig in and start eating. The yolk in Serama eggs are huge, relative to size. Maybe they can go longer without needing to eat much. (I know, I'm grasping at straws here.)

Try thinning the egg with water so that it isn't so sticky and thick. If you have an egg beater take a whole egg and add 1/2 as much water, and beat it. The whole egg is good for him, and raw is fine. Just refrigerate the leftovers and let it come to room temperature. Use a new egg every day. I hope he is getting stronger.

I am afraid UNAble is on his way out. I found him this morning on his side and gasping. he seems to be aspirating. (gasping for air ) I held him for a long time then wrapped him up in a sock and put him closer to the heat. I have failed once again. but i did try hard. if i wasnt trying to tend to him i was trying to research what could be done. 17 hrs. i worked on his hatch. 6 days i have babied him. If it werent for the eggs in there now , my bators would be gone. I used to have pretty good hatches. not 100% but not bad. Maybe its time to hang that particular hat up.

He is gone. the sad thing is he had a poop stuck to his foot this morning. thank you all for help and caring. Enola

, I am sorry you didnt rest well.

So sorry Granny you did everything you could. We were all pulling for him so hard. If you want to try again maybe wait until the hen goes broody and let her do it. A lot less work for you and they all want a momma when they hatch.
Hope your other eggs do better. :fl

Sorry granny. Don't blame yourself. You did everything possible to give the little one a chance at life. Just not meant to be. Not your fault.

I've been thinking about the pair you got. How old is the female? If you are trying to hatch pullet eggs, that might be the problem. One of the things I've heard about Seramas is the issue of proven fertility, which includes viability. I wonder if your pair has produced living offspring. The smaller they are, the harder it is to breed them.

Suzierd is right about them raising their own. Takes the guilt out of it, which is why I don't have an incubator. Only one of my 5 hens did not get broody and 2 of the pullets (5 months) are broody right now! In November! So your chances are good. And if that fails, I will send you some eggs next spring, if my little rooster-to-be does his job. He's working on it.

thanks guys.

I dont know their age but if i had to guess it would be this yrs. rooster and maybe last or this yr. hen. he is very "active" . she is a size A so her eggs are tiny. I wish i still had my silkie, i could put a rock under her and she would sit. I have about 4 dozen eggs in the kitchen, just gave 4 doz. away. If it wasnt for the fact that i just dont need them, i would give the big ones a try. just so i know its not me or the bator. Keep thinking how pretty they would be. swedish roo over buff orph or blk. alstrop. no worries though. i am just not up to all that. I still have those rescue babies in the barn. they are the funnist looking mutts i have ever seen. they all have silkie toes and thats where it ends. none of them look silkie. man that was going to take some backed out.
