Indiana Alisan.   well i got a little work done out there but not enough. I made a big L to keep shavings in 3x8 on the floor, moved some stuff around and out. extension cord in place. my waterer is leaking at the plug on the bottom. its heated. so I dont have a large water container except for the one gallon pans and i am afraid they may drown in it. so i need a plug, 2 bags of shavings get the water and food out there then the chicks.  I seen one that had tap dance shoes on . I hope it is the only one. I will check them as i move them, tomorrow i hope . hurting too bad today.

Yes might need to wait till spring lol. But daisy says Merry Christmas

Hey all seems like granny has been busy. Just wondering if you are supposed to be on you feet so much yet??? Well Lu has been mopping around all day huffy and puffy , digging nests and carpet, trembling but no contractions that I could see and no pups in birth canal that I could feel. Also still a walking appetite Think if there are no pups by tomorrow afternoon will try to get a vet and do an emergency visit. ka-ching to the checkbook. Sunday emergency visit bet its gonna be a couple hundred. It is her first litter so bound to be confusion on her part I just worry as she is 5. It would have helped if the individuals who saw her and your get connected would have told me. ARGGGHHHHHHHHHH Friend came in today to watch desk and help with puppies if I needed it, she brought some of her Christmas baking in with her and did it here. Went to mass and had my cell set to vibrate just in case something started. Then was afraid I would feel it jiggle in my jacket pocket so put in my front pants pocket and worried it would vibrate and startle me at a very inappropriate moment. UFFDA 11:20 Well sweet dream and warm fuzzies to all

Twisted, dont be such a worry wart. she will nest for a couple days and she will know what to do when the time comes. If she is in active labor and not progressing then you can worry. (contractions with no results ) I picture you in my mind at church singing hallalu lu lu lu ya !!!

sorry, hehee Yes i am doing more then i should but its a have to thing. I have no help . the bantams babies have poop balls on their feet from being so big in a small brooder and i cant keep up. they should of moved 2 weeks ago. I am cleaning them as often as i can. In the old guinea coop they will be free to poop as much as they want. LOL I see that I have more then i need again but no one wants bantam mixed roos and they are too tiny to eat . Maybe the woman that was feeding them to her cat had the right idea ? I dont know but i couldnt stand the thought of it.

OK my chicken guru friends don't laugh at my dumb questions... But is it OK to have a breeding pair of chickens out of same roo? I've raised cattle and horses my whole life and can talk genetics there till my face falls off lol. But fowl not to sure about??

you mean breeding brother and sister? half B&S ? I might if it was half but it is not recommended . some do, some dont. If you are aware of the genetics it dont matter the breed . from human to fowl. you run that risk of bad genes, deformed chicks, ect... or you can look at the wolf and wonder how you got that smart poodle.

I almost got done outside. gonna go back after dinner. Im hungry.! trying my hand at some chicken and dumplins . yes, i have made them before and yes, everyone liked moms better. I have the food to put out and the chickens but i have to clean their feet first. sunshine today. I havent seen that in a while . then to clean those brooders out. thats the time i wish i had help more then any other.

I'm assuming I got eggs from breeder had one roo with 10 hens. These are rhode bars

well, I got done for the most part. didnt clean the brooders. I knew i wouldnt. by the time i got the babys over to their new digs I just wanted to sit and watch them. So cute ! to see them spread their wings and try to fly for the first time and running , playing, mock battles. I just got lost in it all. I got a nice hot cup of coffee and lost track of time. I left one in the brooder with every intention of bringing it in the house and making a lap chicken out of it. I really wanted to. soft white fuzzy butt. so gentle too but when i was watching the others i just couldnt bring myself to do that. It would of missed out on so much. when i was out there there was one that all the rest of them were picking on. I couldnt figure out why. I picked it up and it scrambled under my coat and started trilling. I love that sound.

When I finally set it back down it was left alone ? I hope they all gather around the heat tonight. it is a red light. I attached it in 3 different ways. I cant find the rubber plug for my heated water and it is leaking so i found my cookie tin heater for the water but I am going to do something different. It is pretty tall for some of them. I did put 2x4s in front of it for them to stand on but you guys know me. if its not the correct way i am not satisfied. Speaking of correct. my chicken and dumplins , why do some come out fluffy and some like dough balls? the little ones were doughy. the pieces that broke off the bigger ones. I dont like dumplins and dont make it often but every one else does. thinking i might of put too many in the pot ? Anyway, thats been my day. there was joy at the end of a hard 2 days. 3 if you count the brooders . LOL will be paying for it i am sure. My wrists already hurt from the hammer and my foot and back from standing too long. Oh well, what would i do if i couldnt grip right?? Hope all had a good day as well.

Granny I've always used a $5 aquarium heater in the waterer and at -10% the water stays nice and warm. I've also wrapped the water container in reflectix insulation.
