it goes by lumes but i dont know either. it is a rechargeable black and decker that stays plugged in the socket and if lights go off it comes on. I could tell they sure didnt like it. the humidity here is 20. raining now and it is 27 . this is in the house. they were white eggs as well. could see a lot .

i have not used the dog water bowl. i always figured it wouldnt hold neer enough water but 10 yrs? mine lasted a yr . My son will have Nothing to do with chickens.  I better get out there and try to figure something before the ice comes. I did just ask my husband and got no response at all. hope he follows me outside.  what do i use on the roo beside antibiotic? i will be back in a bit

Granny my Temps were -7 and my wagerers did NOT freeze AND it only cost me $5 per coop to make it that way

:barnie  i have tried low humidity, dry, and i have been told they drown easy and i have been tols they need extra humidity. this batch has water.  Hard to keep an eye on the air cell if your not supposed to candle !   congrats on the hatch alisen, they are cutie pies. sorry you lost one but you had a good hatch. I will be pleased if i only get one to hatch.
Granny I weighed my eggs every 2 days on this last batch to make sure they were losing the correct 13% water weight. It didn't hurt them one bit. I mean think about it my hens get off the eggs to go get a drink and a bite then come back? So I figure 2 minutes every 2 days won't hurt them

I have never seen the embryos 'twisting' when I shine the light on them. I wonder if there is such a thing as too bright of a light?! My flash light is just bright enough to see veins, the embryo and the air cell. Of course, I have no idea how to tell what the strength of my flash light is......
enlarge brightness won't affect them but make SURE the light u use puts off NO heat. University studies showed that a few seconds over a hot bulb during candle ng can burst vessels in the egg and kill the chicks

The flash light is an LED light modified with a 6 inch extension that allows me to candle any size egg. No heat involved.

I think i am just having plain ol crappy luck. mine are hatching. just not serama. I really dont know about the light but i do know they didnt like it. definatly did some flipping around in there when i put it on them. its no stronger then most and weaker then a lot i have seen. I dont think i will be trying again after these unless they do hatch. if they do i know the problem for sure. i will let mama give it a try.

I still want to chop that phoenix head off. its the showiest bird i have too. I cant believe that big swedish let him get by with it and didnt even seem to try and fight back. my leg bar roo is very gentle
