So far the only ones to hatch are mixed breed, one australorp-SS and one FBMC-SS.

oh that makes me feel better. I got up at 7 just to see if you needed help with the assist only to learn it had died. I felt really bad.   whats up with the black? thought they were a different breed. LOL

I feel really bad, too. But it had pipped the wrong end of the egg, and I have to remember that even assisting it still might not have survived. I broke away the top half of the shell, so now I'm trying to figure out if I can preserve if for like a biology class.

I dont know what chicken you are talking about , alstrop, ss and ? if you had a choice between swedish flower roo or the (crap) i have forgotten the name of my other one. lol throws blue eggs? what would you keep. sf has been beat up, sick, and now bumble foot . from dirty cage.

but very friendly and beautiful. the other was sick once and not friendly or as pretty .

One chick is australorp under speckled sussex roo, and one is French black copper marans under speckled sussex roo. None of the pure speckled sussex have hatched (yet).

I would keep the nice one, because I have little kids.

Looks like it still had some yolk to absorb ? and the egg looked round. eggs not shaped right will cause them to pip at the wrong end. I THINK that is what i am seeing. looked pretty wet. def. in the wrong position. Thanks for sharing.
