Well, lost one of the brooder babies yesterday - one of the Welsummers - so I guess it worked out okay that we ended up having to buy more of them than originally planned (wanted 2, got 4 to meet the "6 bird min" since they were out of other breeds we were looking for). Had been nursing her along, but it just wasn't enough.
So, now I find myself going back and forth between carrying on and adjusting DS and I's plans or picking up another chick (or six, lol). Did notice that TSC had the Australorps I was looking for to begin with now........and DH is convinced I am taking it harder than I am (I am really practical minded about livestock - he's the softie), so that could work in my favor when it comes time to tell him I can't get just one chick to replace the one we lost. I figure worst case scenario, I pick up six and sell five of them when they are ready to be up and out in the coop or even wait a little longer and get even more for them as POL pullets, right? Heck, I could sell those extra birds and pay us back for all six newbies and the first set too - yeah, that's it, I'm actually saving him money, right?

I went for a ride today. Milton Ky. to sell the 2 cochin pr. I just bought at the swap. went about 10 miles further then i needed to sold them for 24 dollars then bought a hen for 15. LOL She is a doll ! he had 3 and this was the only one that didnt have spurs . they must be old. she dont seem old. I am sorry i cant tell you what she is but i will give it a go. has something to do with apples and spit housers.

black and white spotted with a hat and devil horns. I walked to the back and seen 2 of my birds laying on their side with their feet and legs stiff out in the air. they were laying on a tarp too. I thought they were dead. I walked over there and kicked one of them and all heck broke loose ! I was screaming, they were screaming, started all the others to screaming. . my DH is standing outside laughing his butt off. stupid chicken.
