Yes, sorry. She made her olive eggers by crossing the amerecauna roo with welsummer hens.

Her Ameraucana rooster is an Easter Egger rooster, sorry to have to tell her that. So if he is the sire over all those eggs, some of the pullets may not lay colored eggs, even though they hatched from colored eggs. But, they will probably still be good layers that are friendly!

Hey all - sorry to have been so absent, its been an......interesting.....week. Looks like I have some reading to do to get all caught up on the goings on of Granny's gang!

Crap. Friend of hubs' just texted me. He had a hen go broody and now has a chick.

"Want a chick?!?"

Husband is now avoiding eye contact.

It's good to hear you say that, because the first time I met her she said "they were sold to me as amerecauna but they turned out to be EEs." And then a few weeks later I was trying to clear up my information, because I was selling the chicks, and she said "no, they're definitely amerecaunas." So I'm at least glad she was honest the first time. :p

The eggs were only $5 a dozen, and they've all turned out to be friendly and tame, and some of them are real lookers! I'll try to get a big family portrait later.

You know, that roo's white legs are throwing me for a loop. I guess he could be a sussex mix... I didn't keep good track of the eggs/chicks like I should have. Or maybe he just got ALL of the recessive genes.

Welcome back!!!! Hopefully not interesting in a bad way

Mixed bag there -- love my daughter, but am thinking at the moment it is actually a very good thing for her sake that she is out of my reach for the next 4 weeks as it wasn't even hours after we dropped her off at Ft. Knox that the proverbial fit hit the shan where she is concerned. Some previous not-so-truths have come to light. To add to that, what little communication we have had with her has been being informed that she was diagnosed with strep the day after we dropped her off, had IV antibiotics, they tried to tell her she is allergic to penicillin (she's not - so that gave me a lot of faith in the medical treatment she's getting, lol, but that's military medical treatment for you, lol --- j/k actually had very good experiences in general while DH was active duty) - sum total of like 5 minutes of communication since Wednesday and it's kind of hard not to be able to take care of her when I know she is sick, but at the same time would probably be tempted to wring her neck myself at the moment. Last I heard she was expected to be back in full-speed-ahead training with her group by Sunday so

- should be just in time not to miss grenade throwing, the gas chamber, weapons training and the week of field time --- sounds like fun to me, lol.

Spent Thursday helping DS with all the final touches for his 4-H projects and then doing project check in. Always a fun (yet slightly stressful) day - made it to the fairgrounds and back without killing any of his fish (always good) and had a successful launch of the rocket, though not so succesful landing and, alas, the eggstronaut was a loss. He did the Eggscaliber rocket this year. We'll go in tomorrow, maybe, to see how his projects did in judging (and get some of the donuts from the church booth that DH and DS live for every year) - and Wednesday is the cat show so I'll be helping him get Sheldon ready for that.

It's just that time of year where everything is go-go-go -- looking forward to fall when the weather is nicer (SO over all this rain!!!!) and things slow down a bit.

So this just happened. Everyone, meet Nugget. Friends hen went broody, his wife let her and is in Mexico for two weeks so...panicked Kat can you take it?!?!

His coop is hardly suitable for a chick...nugget would get eaten so quick.

May have to find a friend for nugget soon too. But....for now, he/she has drunk and has discovered food...and has a loud chirp!

Here's a few of my babies from the Easter hatch. The three BIG ones are half sussex: two are half australorp and the other is half orpington. The others are the EE/OE. There are 22 Easter babies altogether.
