you stuff lemons up its butt ?  do you eat them?  thats a store bought chicken.  Last time i put something up a chickens butt it was a can of beer. what else has people put in chickens butts I wonder..

I haven't had a reason to process my own chickens yet. Not meaties, either. I didn't eat the lemons, but I ate the parsley/cilantro. The lemons worked great! Very moist and tender.

Not sure all "feather fixer" is the same. I researched the Nutrena Nature Wise instead of alfalfa supplement as nothing is green here by end of summer. I'd need to buy weeds.  No pesticides, just replaces natural greens and  stuff. Think I'll use that during a molt, but my cheapo layer w/ alfalfa and rolled oat is working for now. Thinking out loud...if we didn't want to pay top $$ for convenience, there must be something handy to add the oils and stuff? What say yee all?

BOSS is good, but also usually expensive.

The peep is out! :weee A sweet little blonde SS. :love.

They hatch much faster when my nose isn't glued to that bator glass. Looks like this mama isn't going to be a chick-stomping hussy like the last sussex. That was horrible.

thats awesome !! did you see another pip ?

I didn't look that long. I didn't hear peeping so I was just making sure there was a chick in there. This broody is the angriest I've ever had, and the most dedicated. She never ate and I only filled the waterer once. Even when I took her off the nest she went straight back without eating.

she had to of ate something. she wouldnt survive 21 days. So she is pecking you ? LOL I miss hatching babies a lot. no more til spring for me/ cost too much with the heat lamp.

member sally sunshine has a ton of great links under her name and she has some really good articles she wrote on hatching. your welcome.
Thanks granny. Backstory: My Pops, 83, gave his farm to his son and moved in here, his RV, "man cave". I swear, if it came from an egg, he's hatched it! Emus, pea foul, rheas finches on and on.Anything I know about chickens, I learned from him. He doesn't have a lot of years left to be proud and enjoy what he's done all his life. I'd love to let him enjoy hatching here, but I'll need to learn a bit to help behind the scene. One hobby breed for him to enjoy. Anything to keep him proud and feeling useful. Sorry for babbling. I love him like a love never imagined. I dread the day he leaves me. I'm addled way worse than him for sure. Here's a pic of my pops, 83 years young.
