Me thinks perhaps "Mr Hankey" might be a better name.......
Lol.

Follow mama's lead on that one - some broodies are less open to your "help" with the kids than others.  Even without direct handling you can become a familiar and friendly fixture in their world.
thanks mare. I'd like to have some more that don't mind being picked up but I'll see what the mom decides about that. The ones I have know all follow me around and two of them like being held. The older Brahma that I bought a couple months ago was scared of me to start. Now she love for me to pick her up. I open the coop door so she can walk out but she flys up to the nest box just for me to pick her up.

This particular broody Silkie has never been cuddly. I spent a lot of time with her little ones, but couldn't get them to warm up to me either. Sometimes I think its just the bird.

I hear you there - that would be how we ended up with "tree chickens" many years ago. My nastiest hen had snuck off and gone broody (honestly, was almost relieved thinking that she had gotten eaten - she was just not a pleasant bird to be around) and turned back up with a brood of chicks. She turned her nose (beak?) up at living in the coop with the rest of the flock after that point (was plenty happy to come by and eat the food, of course) and instead ended up teaching her entire brood to live in an apple tree at the end of our lane. None of those birds were every remotely people friendly.

Looks like chattery41 may get a time out for what he just posted on the contest.

I saw that too. It has to be flagged by someone to get a moderator's attention. They can't possibly read every single post every day. Most times they just delete the flagged post if it breaks the rules. This thread would be full of mod edited posts if they were reading all the time!

red you don't get POINTS for giving ovations but you do get extra for multiple ovations for same post and extra for ovations from people who haven't given you one before

x2. My current broody taught her biddies to run to me for food, help, etc. But she's the first one to do that.
oh I hope she'll do that.

red what is your actual ovation count??
total is 500 and something but my actual is 100 something. I think.

Now where is granny tonight? Has anyone else noticed that she's been doing a lot of disappearing acts on here lately? Ya think she might be moonlighting somewhere else :lau
