I've founda few. A big oak had fallen in the highway and a 18 wheeler hit it about ten minutes after we went by. Idk if it fell on top of the truck or if the truck run into itSounds like your Tom has a case of spring fever! Good to get out of the house and hope you have fun!
So far the only time my hens have eaten eggs is when they were accidentally broken, usually from weak shells. Make sure your guys have oyster shells! Good greens like kale, broccoli, and alfalfa are good for them and have extra calcium too!
How's your chick with the mystery troubles? Any more crowing from the brooder?
