What I don't understand is WHY they never bother with the process???? Seriously, if you want to be here THAT bad, take the danged test people! It really isn't that hard.

The only path to citizenship currently for illegal immigrants is to be married to a legal citizen...not even a legal resident will work and prove that it would be an extreme hardship if you were deported.

Fines, fees and attorney costs are over 11,250 for us currently and we still have not had our hearing yet. We have to leave the country to see if he is allowed back in. Most are denied. You have to wait 12 to 18 mos for the next appt to try again. You also get to pay all the fees and filling costs again as well.

Why does no one notice they fake documents? Because they don't want to.

What about the money being filled under the wrong social security number? The govt sends out a letter to tell you that your name and social security number do not match and that you need to get that fixed before the earnings can be noted on your "account". Where does that money go? You tell me, I am sure the govt is not giving it back.

If you are here illegally you are a criminal. Simple as that. If your family gets torn apart because you got deported that's on you. What other crimes are we going to over look to keep criminals with there familys?

What other crimes am I willing to overlook....none. I didn't say it was legal to immigrate illegally.

My husband has been here 10 years, has worked jobs that were disgusting and demeaning to provide, and has never even gotten a speeding ticket.

Should the drug runner and my husband be in the same category?

Personally, as I watch countless people on the news accepting citizenship, will not accept any excuse for being here illegally. It IS possible, it does not take and attorney. Do it or go home.

I guess not being a leftist, I take emotion out of it. Having been friends with more than one person who immigrated illegallly and changed that as soon as they could, I KNOW it can be done. Easily.

I wish you would tell me how. Maybe I am a big weenie and was just too scared to risk it w/o an atty but I would dearly love to know how the people you know did it. All I have been exposed to have been people that were denied. Did they have to leave the country to get their status changed? Did they have a hearing here? How long did it take them because we have been doing this for over a year?

Rebelcowboy- it takes different strokes/opinions to make the world go round. I am not going to argue with you. I will respect your opinion, I just don't understand it. I believe that what we do everyday makes a difference. I don't think a mistake made by your mom when you were a minor should be what defines you.

It is late and I am calling it a night. Interesting debate.

No it is NOT easy or cheap! All the legals I know their parents either started it when they were young or they married in Mexico to an American. It takes years and alot of parents start when the kids are young and keep paying and paying. Its kind of like a bribe I suppose. Payments to get citisinship!

What an idiotic position to take that native Americans, Americans with generations of ancestors who've fought for and are buried on this soil should leave. If you were born here, of legal immigrant parents, you are a native American despite that politically correct term for the aboriginal people of North America.

And oh, by the way, we as a country cannot afford to absorb the millions who are here illegally. The last time I checked, we are a nation of laws.

Last time I checked we are a nation of immigrants.

True, but there are many, many people who can trace their American roots back well over 10 generations. At what point do we stop with the "immigrant" label? That's stepping right into gogolie's trap. Human beings, with the exception of maybe natives of Africa and the middle east, had to have "immigrated" from somewhere. So-called "Native American" aboriginal people didn't magically appear on this continent out of thin air. For that matter England is a nation of immigrants also - the Saxons, the Normans and the Pakistanis

work illegally because they can pay them less.

and thats exactly what brings them here. I am more and more for Australia's unions which demand proper pay and vacations etc. When I was there 3 years ago (after living and working in the states for 20 yrs) I was amazed to get overtime after 6pm..double time on weekends and triple time on holidays! Christmas and News years day was WOW! although I never did get to work over that period.....but yeah...we can't compete with the low wages they will accept.
And sorry...I had to jump through hoops and juggle fire brands to get my green card ...they should too. I hear they deliberately cross over in labor to have a baby over here...not right.
