Guinea talk.

Pics
Your guinea coop is so nice GlenLee. Just seeing that makes me ashamed of what I have for my guineas.

Oh never be ashamed of what you have provided for your guineas - they're happy with anything they are given as long as they can get out of the inclement weather! Here we just decided to go with one that was pre-made because of our time constraints, it was easier and we didn't have to build it!

My husband did do a lot of the interior work with framing, installation and making the roosts. And we did pay someone to put in the electrical. The price was reasonable - given the quality - we were fortunate that it all worked out and the guineas will have an enclosed building that's big enough to get them through the winter. I painted the interior to hopefully deter critters and I got a bit silly with my decorating - Amazon, Aldi and Dollar Store! Our storage buckets are toss aways from Panera Bread's pickle buckets and the table is a recycled high school lab table we put on wheels. Ha!

Good morning everyone. How is everyone doing?

I've been thinking about taking Spiderman to Feeders Supply. I used to take my favorite chicken out there. She loved going and she loved the attention. They even had her a birthday party one year. One time I took her there and after we got in the store a woman come running in. She said where is the chicken I've just got to see and pet her. Of course Skiddles the chicken ate up all the attention and the petting. I think Spiderman would love the attention too. The only thing is Mary Jane would be by herself when he went. He would probably get into major trouble with her for leaving her. I'll let you all know if I take him to the store. I think he would love riding around in the cart looking at everything. I'm sure he would be the first guinea to visit their store.

I hope everyone has a nice day it's getting up to 86 here today so we are going back to summertime weather for a while.

How exciting! I can't wait for stories and pictures

Oh Patti - that is just a hoot! Of course, Spiderman would love all that attention and what a good ambassador he is for guineas. I think if you let Mary Jane take a trip to the spa, she'll be fine with the extra attention Spider will receive. Yes, please post pictures for us all to see.

Guineas came up on the porch for the first time this afternoon to get some treats with the other hens.

Its also the first time they sat "still" long enough for a decent photo. I took 6 and this is the least blurry. Gertrude is the one at the top, who was sitting on the nest with 17 eggs last week. The one on the bottom is Ginny.
So I'm guessing Ginny is a pearl gray. Gerdy (not pictured) looks like Ginny but has white patches on her side and stomach, so that's a pied, right? Is Gertrude a slate or something else?

I found a picture of a bronze and I think Gertrude's coloring (above) is the same as in this picture. Gerdy looked different to me in the dusting picture you sent ... not sure about her.

I'll be sure and take pics of Spiderman if he gets to go to Feeders. First I have to make sure he doesn't freak out in the car on the way there. I think he'll enjoy it as long as he gets to sit on my lap.

I think your right Rhonda , Gertrude does look like the bronze guinea in the pic. Love that name for a guinea.

Ok, those legging scare me a bit. I like the look of the pattern, but actually wearing them, I'd be concerned about what stretches when I had them on! Let us know is you end up getting them and of course, take a picture.

I have to brag on my 3 guinea girls! We had a predator scare last week. We thought we had something picking off chickens while they were free ranging so everybody got locked down from last Wednesday to this morning. Turns out we just cant count. It's hard to count 46 birds on the roost in the dark. Anyway everybody got along with no fussing and fighting. The girls took it in stride and hardly complained at all. They got out to free range again this morning and acted like all was forgiven. From the stories I had heard I was expecting dead baby chicks or beaten up roosters but it was all fine. We even got 91 eggs from the hens while we were gone for a 3 day weekend.

Oh, that's great news! Your guinea girls are gold star performers - they really have assimilated well with your flock. They probably have forgotten that they are guineas and now think of themselves as chickens. I'll bet Elvis had something to do with that. Making custard pies with all those eggs?
