How is it irrelevant ? The person was talking about how it was better to have the strict gun controls they have in the Netherlands, and saying we would be better off with the same laws.
If you don't understand the concept don't try to minimize the relevance.

Dennis does have a point, if the gun culture existed in the countries that Hitler invaded like it exists today in the US I really think the whole war in Europe would have been different.

I feel like bringing up something as horrible and extreme as the holocaust in this context is not appropriate and for shock value. The attempt was clearly to cause reaction and I had one. What happened during that part of world history is, to me, something that is extremely important that people understand, and what happened is complex. Bringing it up in the context of arguing whether or not people should or should not have guns in their home/gun control is America seems belittling something very serious to me as the two things are so unrelated.

I apologize that I spoke without first considering my words and will back out of this conversation as I can not discuss this without becoming emotional.

I understand; I have the same issue, and I posted an apology on the other thread, and it applies here as well.

I think he/she wasn't attempting to belittle the Holocaust, just using an example that they found fitting. There were actually several examples of armed Jewish uprising, though, especially the famous Warsaw uprising.

I'm sure when the Netherlands decided to strictly limit guns that no one said what if the Germans invade and want to round up all the Jews they wont be able to defend themselves. But we can learn from history.
Now I'm not saying that if we control guns that someone will invade and start rounding up the Jews or the blonds or the left handed people. But when you plan to take a course of action you need to consider the worst case event.
