I opened all three last night. The one embryo has always looked weaker, and passed after being open for just 3 hours. The vein network looked really poor. The other original one was in a super thin egg shell, and when I was scratching the X with the needle it went in further than I would have liked. Apparently, even though it didnt go in far at all, it nicked a vein and ruptured the yolk.
That one was gone this morning. These eggs were from a newer laying pullet though, and she's only 7 months old. So I think she's working out some egg quality issues.
However, the third egg I have in is from my wonderful, reliable, 1 and a half year old "brown hen". She's a mix. I know her mom was a SLW, but her dad was an unknown mix of many different generations. He was big, is all I know. Here's a few pics of the hen.
Sorry about the rooster damage, that has long been resolved. I just used that pic because it shows her back pattern well. She's a bit shy so it's hard to get good pics of her. The only roo I have right now is still the Buff Brahma Bantam. So he is the father if this egg. Anyway, this egg is on day 3 today. It's still going strong. I opened it last night, just because I wanted to see if I could start it earlier. It doesn't have much veining though. I'll get a pic from it tonight. I set another egg from the brown hen (I could never think of a good name for her so shes just BH, lol)
this morning. It was in the refrigerator for a day though. I'll set another one today if she lays one.
@Trisseh how are your quail eggs?
