Half Shell Hatch-A-Long! (Caution, unsuccessful, please read whole thread before attempting)

Pics
I opened all three last night. The one embryo has always looked weaker, and passed after being open for just 3 hours. The vein network looked really poor. The other original one was in a super thin egg shell, and when I was scratching the X with the needle it went in further than I would have liked. Apparently, even though it didnt go in far at all, it nicked a vein and ruptured the yolk. 🤦‍♀️
That one was gone this morning. These eggs were from a newer laying pullet though, and she's only 7 months old. So I think she's working out some egg quality issues.
However, the third egg I have in is from my wonderful, reliable, 1 and a half year old "brown hen". She's a mix. I know her mom was a SLW, but her dad was an unknown mix of many different generations. He was big, is all I know. Here's a few pics of the hen.

Sorry about the rooster damage, that has long been resolved. I just used that pic because it shows her back pattern well. She's a bit shy so it's hard to get good pics of her. The only roo I have right now is still the Buff Brahma Bantam. So he is the father if this egg. Anyway, this egg is on day 3 today. It's still going strong. I opened it last night, just because I wanted to see if I could start it earlier. It doesn't have much veining though. I'll get a pic from it tonight. I set another egg from the brown hen (I could never think of a good name for her so shes just BH, lol)
this morning. It was in the refrigerator for a day though. I'll set another one today if she lays one.
@Trisseh how are your quail eggs?

She’s a cutie!! Sorry your other 2 eggs didn’t survive. :( my quail eggs went in Thursday night, so I should be able to open one up tomorrow night for day 3, for the purposes of my shell-less experiment. I’ll candle them all first and decide which one to use. I would hate to go to all the trouble only to use one that’s not viable to start with! Haha.

Thanks! It's ok. It was kinda sad, but if they couldn't survive being opened I don't think they could survive the whole duration. Sounds good. Oh, yes definitely candle first! 😂

I've been watching this experiment for a while. I wouldn't think it would work, so I'm VERY curious to see the results!
I got to day 18 last time, and I think that one only died because it suffocated. I think it can work. I just have to try more, lol.

If you haven't found this before it gives very detailed instructions of the experiment in Japan.

They wiped down the eggs with 70% ethanol before cracking them, which is something you could do before you open yours, and they kept the humidity at 80% for the duration of incubation.

No I hadn't found that! Thank you so much! I don't have an ethanol. Will rubbing alcohol work?
