Scraps is what I named his egg, since it was so much smaller than the rest. I haven't named an egg since.

Yes, I will gladly help out when you set in your incubator.

Actually, one of the reasons I wanted an incubator was for just the sort of situation you probably had. When we have a broody, all our other hens will climb into her nest and lay during her breaks. I had to start marking the eggs she started with so I could get the other ones out of her nest. Though I have to wait until I can catch her off of the nest. So...Sometimes I'm a couple of days into the setting before I can mark them. When the hatch happens, I would love to be able to pull the less developed eggs and put them into an incubator when the hen decides to get up and teach her chicks. I am hoping that brooding is done until spring though.

Thank you neferset- I hope she is done too! She seems quite happy with her 4 lil' chicks so I'm hoping she doesn't get broody again for awhile---at least not until I can get an incubator! I'm ready to put the rest of the girls in the coop, poor things they've been sleeping in another pen and are so confused as to where to lay their eggs. She has had the coop alone with her babies since last week, before they hatched.

It was cute though, one of my fav girls Daisy (RIR) jumped in the coop to see what all that chirping was about...hahaha! I love her she is so funny!

Thanks again -- You've been so helpful!

No problem. I've been happy that my bad weather could help out other people. (Bad weather...lol...clear, cool, and comfortable with low humidity and lovely blue skies.) I have three more of the Orpington X chicks hatching right now. Pipped yesterday and all three got shrink wrapped. Gah. This particular hatch has been bad for my nerves.

Your Daisy looks a lot like our LRH (Little Red Hen, there was a children's story). I think she has better color than LRH though. LRH is a production red, so she's a bit faded.

OOOO good luck on your hatch -- how exciting!!

Daisy is a very light RIR- I do have one that is a much deeper red, her name is Rose---SHE is my favorite girl, bottom of the pecking order but she is my sweetheart!

Yes, I was a good chicky mommy and took them through the lid!

I will admit it was hard to resist... but I told myself that in order to take fun pics later I have to leave the lid down! haha
