not as bad now as when she was little

lol... i'm pretty sure she's frazzle not frizzle... her feathers are too thin and there's a lot of broken off ones if you look... and so my understanding is she'll put out 100% frizzles... and then those frizzles i want to breed with smooth cochin to avoid the frazzles brittle feathers.. but i will get a smaller % frizzle that way.. but healthier looking birds...
i don't know.. i'm gonna wing it.. rofl.. wing it.. on chicken genetics... i should be in bed....
but i'm gonna hatch some silkies and see what happens with them then decide dopey's breeding fate.. lol...

My two look similar but not quite as disheveled, but the white one has the five toed Silkie foot. The blue/grey has the more standard chicken foot. I also have a smooth feathered, feather footed bird with the five toed Silkie foot. I think. I feel like I need to go out and inspect bird feet to be absolutely sure. Yours also has less feathering on the head than mine do. I really need to get them out in the sunlight so I can get good pictures. Right now they are in an insulated pen and my last pictures had them still in the brooder.

I just took about 5 of my EEs out there to be with them. The brooder was getting a little crowded.

So...Today is the first Halloween Hatch Lockdown day (All Chicks due the 29th). Tomorrow for the 30th. Wednesday for the 31st. Getting excited?

Ya know, I have been looking at pictures of those gold cuckoo marans. They really are nice looking birds. Are their eggs very dark? My Cuckoo Marans have a nice sized egg, but not real dark. Which is fine, after all, I just throw away the shell when I eat them!

Anyway, I think the gold cuckoo is prettier. Though I will never give up my rooster, Rupert .... King of Sweetness!

The first couple of sets I bought from one breeder weren't very dark eggs at all. This set came from Nivtup and is decidedly darker than those I got previously from other GCMS. Now BCM eggs are tons darker. But I would be quite happy with hens laying the color of the eggs I recieved to hatch from Nivtup.

This has been a rough hatch, seems stuff always has to go wrong when I have marans eggs in an incubator. (Fan started smoking, had to use WD 40 because I was out of the little thing of machine oil - so smoke and then WD 40 smell/fumes? for hours. Then added cold water like an idiot to the bator - and the temp plummeted for hours before brain dead me realized the water coming out of the well is only like 50 now...) Duh. Like Murphy's Law Magnets they are. I'm still praying for a few but never know. And I didn't even candle this batch. They're so dark they're all but impossible anyway and why risk it when handling them... so mystery hatch approaching.

The other eggs are BBS Rocks from Halo - I'm hoping for at least one blue pullet but wow the postal gorillas had a field day with the box. Fewer than half started at all.

Then some of the last seramas for the year. And one more batch of Sizzles - go Sizzle pullets - really please. Please. Pullets. Please... I could tolerate one perfect blue male... I'm just sick of 60-80% roos.

All due by the 31st. Let's hope....
