HALLOWEEN HATCH!!! Anyone

Quote:
usually my rule of thumb is 24hrs...after that im coming in after it! But when your on day 22 and your closeing in on day 23 like myself...the rules tend to change

That's very true. It seems like it's been forever, but for me it's only day twenty. I have to remind myself I'm still well in the window for the babies to do it themselves, despite the kitty incident.

since my pipping baby is officially a Halloween baby i was thinking of a name

Gomez for a boy

Morticia for a girl

I loved the Adams family when i was little! Lurch, thing, and Wednesday came to mind as well.

I just love reading your posts! Thanks for letting a newbie hang out with ya'll. You've made the last several days so much more bearable!

I finished booting my silkies and am ready to go to bed. I'll be checking in tomorrow to see how everything went. I'm counting on seeing lav orph chicks!

I'll say a little prayer for the cat trick batch and asylum's pips and all you others.

Sweet Dreams

Hey, Asylum, did you come to a decision regarding your wrong end pipper? No pressure, just wondering. If you do decide to go ahead and help, much luck to you and the wee one.

I just checked my guys, and one is working on a new pip. LOL Guess the old one just wasn't up to par. Yay, progress finally!!

well i let my mind get the best of me..2 hrs and no progress..since it was 1.5 days late..i went in to help it zip. The first few pieces went well...then i hit a vain...not good. Blood came out...not a bunch..but enough to scare me to stop. He is breathing strong...chirping...he is opening his mouth very wide tho....i hope he is not gasping for air when he is doing that. I sprinkled some flower on the blood spot and it seemed to stop it so that was a relief. Gosh i feel bad now...i sure hope i did not hurt the little guy

If this will help you at all ... I hit a vessel on one of mine last night, but I had a small cup of cold water handy, and sugar. I dipped just the very tip of a tissue in the water, and pressed it against where the blood was coming from, hoping the cold would make the vein contract. (I was very careful with this part - didn't want to chill the chick.) Then, after a moment, I packed it with fine sugar. Took a couple of coats, but it stopped the bleeding. I used to use flour, but a friend of mine who had cared for animals her whole life and is scary smart said sugar works better. You probably didn't hurt your little one; mine would holler every time I touched her with the tool, or a piece of shell fell in on her, or she felt a drop of water. I imagine when you've been cocooned in a dark, quiet place your whole short life, every little touch is startling. LOL
