How did I miss this? So we are supposed to open all the vents? I have a Hovabator 1602 stilll air that I'm using as a hatcher...there are 2 stoppers on the top (and 5 vent holes in between) these are supposed to be opened now??????
I'm not sure about that model. I have an KG, and it says to gradually remove the plugs. There are only 2 in mine, but they are always out. It's easier to up the humidity that way.

I had one of my last hatch's chicks pip in the complete opposite side from th eair sac. As long as it is not bleeding, and has pipped through the shell enough to get oxygen it should be fine.
I think only 2 of my 5 shipped eggs are still good.
I have now done what I needed to up my humidity and will be waiting to see....I left all 5 eggs because well...I don't know I guess it is hard for me to believe! I know that its a home made styro bator and the thermostat had a big swing to it...but....
I just want 1 to make it. i dont' want to COMPLETELY fail! The first 7 I pulled were either not fertilized or scrambled...I thought these were developing but now I just don't know! I have 2 REALLY dark ones and I thought 1 moved a little when I candled it tonight...I candled because I was going to take the "bad" ones out but...I just couldn't ..
I don't know if I can do this anymore...I'm seriously stressed out!
I opened my hatcher to move my thermometer (like 2 seconds tops) and the temp spiked up to 104. It's been bouncing since. I have 4 different thermometers and they are reading 94-99-95-102. The 102 is the "outdoor" probe for the accurite. I'm going to be up all night anxiously watching this thing.....
Maybe grown chickens are the way to go?????? I think I've sprouted at least 5 gray hairs in this process...maybe more!
And I'm normally the most chilled out person you'd ever meet!

I think I saw this same question on another post, but I had one that was from a hen that had a 'V' shaped air sac. It went down both sides of the egg over halway, and in the center it was normal. This one of yours is in an incubator, correct? If so, it is probably something to do with the egg itself. Was it a shipped egg? Maybe it got damaged during shipping.
Yes, this is a shipped egg & it is in the bator. Well out of the 14 I had shipped only 4 -5 I think are any good. I tossed quite a few & have 2 that are suspicious now. I will take the egg turner out tomorrow & pop the vent hole & put them in an egg carton & hope to hear peeping too. My own bantie eggs are doing fine.
Ya know what I think....
I think the PO takes those boxes marked "don't x-ray" & "handle with care - live hatching egges" I think they drop kick thru the building, back & forth! Then they send them on!

Don't stress now...it is what it is. Yeah, right. I say this as I've made at least 100 trips to the hatcher in the last 20 minutes...I am so worried about these little babies. I did decide, though, that I am not going to intervene. If they don't hatch, then that is what was meant to be.
I just hope I get a BR roo out of one of the eggs! I've already got 6 BR pullets and I need a roo!!!
BTW...I'll be up all night with you.
Wonder if I can call in sick to work tomorrow? Will ya'll tell on me? LOL!
