He was ... but don't be sad for me, I do that well enough all on my own! I had my boy for a very long time. He came to me at barely six months old and was knocking very hard on 16 years when he went. I will always have a border collie shaped hole in my heart, but there's a lot of space left in there for more ...

My current canine baby is Indy another "throwaway pup" (Tag was a rescue.) We're pretty sure he's a cockapoo, but we'll never know and it doesn't matter. We also don't know his age; somewhere between 12 and 14, by now. He's been "home" for nearly 10 years, now, so it really doesn't matter. It almost didn't matter at all, because we came close to losing him just a week or two after a friend picked him up as a dumped stray. His full name, actually written on his vet card, is: "Indy Go Out the Window of a Moving MiniVan in the Middle of 896 in the Middle of Rush Hour." He's Indigo, or Indy, for short. On a funny note, he'll also come to "Indy Go Out The Window!" So, our Indy's not the brightest crayon in the box, but what he lacks in intelligence, he makes up for in pure sweetness. He's a 17 pound curly-blonde bundle of love, and he's perfect.

Then there's Skye ... DD's crazy Border Collie/English Setter (ish) rescue. She's 50 pounds of great intelligence, totally lacking in common sense. Zheesh, what a handful!

Awwww they all sound amazing!!! :love

The last dog was supposed to be a Yorkie. After discovering that small dogs can fit on the Harley, my husband wanted another tiny dog. All things considered, I’m glad we got an adult.
I’m all for shelter dogs. I just wish they’d get better employees and volunteers! :barnie We have some crazy people around here, and that was before “this generation” came about.

Yeah a lot of rescue people are crazy now a days haha ask ridiculous questions/have ridiculous requirements and they charge so dang much now haha it’s crazy and I think a bit of a scam

One woman in particular was so annoying that we went in three times to adopt the same dog, but always left because she was annoying. Attention volunteers, don’t call the dog over to you while the potential adopters are trying to bond. Two places did that too.

So cute lol

Oh wow that is really weird and definitely very annoying haha

I feel like some of them don’t actually want them to find homes with as ridiculous requirements as most have.

There's a great way to fix the "better volunteers" situation ... volunteer! My kids and I volunteer with the Chesapeake Feline Association, our local cat rescue. (www.ChesapeakeFelineAssociation.org)
We used to foster kittens, and have had nearly two dozen pass through our home, but after a bit, the "foster fails" started to add up. You know those, the ones you decide that, for one extremely valid reason or another, you just can't pass along. I woke up one morning to three cats in my face ... literally. On my way to feeding them, I tripped over a fourth ... and that was the end of fostering for us! We now volunteer directly at the shelter and at the occasional adoption event, and we advocate for them as often as we get the chance.

My "Decision Morning" - not my pic, but just visualize this shot, times three!

Don't be too harsh on the charges, though. You're not really paying for your pet, you're giving the shelter the resources to rescue another, which often includes expensive medical care before it can even be ready for adoption. And we all know that medical care these days ... for pets or people ... ain't cheap!

Lest we stray too far from our "original topic" (but hey, we've got to do SOMETHING to pass the time during those looooooong hatching stretches, right?) Does anyone else have trouble with humidity, now that the indoor heat's starting to kick in erratically? Just when I get mine stable, the heat kicks in and it goes all wonky again. Then we'll have a warmer stretch during the afternoon, where the heat stays off ... some days, but not all. This back and forth is driving me NUTS. I want my flip flops back!
