Hands on hatching and help

yuck jury duty. not fun. thank god i got out of mine i didn't have a babysitter.

Our attorneys didn't care. If your selected then you have to figure something out......so the one woman who was selected is a single mom who owns her own business. She had to move all her Appts causing her to lose money and figure something out for her 5 year old daughter. They don't care.

:fl   Hope you have a great hatch.  And I hope you held off on the shine until after lockdown!

Not bad, I agree.  I texted the seller.  If I can spare the money, I might go for it.  Still undecided.  Or I might ask if they will take a little less $$ and see if that makes it easier for me to justify.

At what day did you open the ones that looked vacuum sealed?  In my opinion, there are many reasons that cause an unhatched one to look shrinkwrapped.  If the air cells don't get big enough, then the chick gets too big, and doesn't have enough room to maneuver inside the egg, causing it to use up all the fluid and get trapped.  On the other hand, if the air cell grows too much, then the chick also gets trapped if it isn't strong enough to break into the air cell.  So humidity must be in an acceptable range for the air cell to grow properly, and temperatures must be in the right range also, so that the chick grows at the proper rate.

:lau. It was after but they made it just fine! ;)

So... I told myself I wasn't going to set any more eggs for a while....  but I lied to myself.  I have 7 to lockdown in a couple of days, and then I was going to be done.

Well, instead, I now have 5 (yes, just 5!) of my cuckoo bantam cochin's eggs in there.  I have been dying to hatch some of hers, since I determined which egg was hers, and last night, they jumped into the bator and I just had to let them stay.  :)

(see, my thinking is, if these sell well, then I might be able to justify that new incubator! LOL)

:gig. Well if it's only 5 does the batch really count, WV?

It's called fertility checking!!!! Duh! :gig

Oh BTW!!!! I have a hatched Silkie!!!!!
400

And 2 more pips!!!

We had one blue runner that hatched out of our first batch of 20 from Stromberg's (in fact it was the only one that hatched out of the 20).  It was dark but once it dried it was definitely a dark, slate color.  These 2 definitely are all black.  The blue one we hatched didn't have any yellow feathers on it's chest but both of these 2 do and the pair of black runners we got from the feed store had the same yellow on their chests.  They are still sweet little babies so I guess we will love them anyways.

If I hold that little baby with the flopping neck he will stop, but I have to hold his head forward til he calms down and then he will just look at me and peep quietly.  He's such a sweet little baby.  I hope we can help him and he pulls through.

There is a PetCo in greeley so I will check there tomorrow.  Good to know about other options for medicines.  Thanks Ruby and Ravyn!

Good luck!! Please keep us posted on how he does!! I'll be thinking of you!

Yes it was completely separated from the shell. And all blood vessels were gone.
No I don't have a separate hydrometer in there. Just the one that came with my incubator. I looked for one two three different places but couldn't find one

I use this one. It's cheap and easy to calibrate. I've bought the expensive digital one and the cheap was more accurate after calibrating both!

I am artificially incubating Sevastopol's. On day 30 I drilled a small hole in the air sac end because of previous egg deaths. Day 31 I hear chirping but no pipping or unzipping. Today is day 32 - should I help?
OH good ness hope it made it OK, I wish I saw this sooner, but this site doesnt like to work with me.

The ones in incubator are duck eggs at the 10th day.so 18 days for them to go.
New eggs will be goose eggs, I'll be picking them up tomorrow afternoon.
OMG, and I thought I was the ONLY ONE, I picked up some goose eggs, I have FOUR in my bator, WHAT A HUGE DIFFERENCE COMPARE TO MY LITTLE CALL DUCK EGGS.lol.. From what I have read my goose eggs should take 30 days. I was going to create a forum specifically for Geese's to get all those who have hatched them for some advice. This is my FIRST time hatching a goose.

If all fails, the man I got these from said he'll give me as many as I want. The Male in his flock is a Sebostopel and all the Girls are Pilgrims AHHHHHHH
