Has anybody had luck with shipped eggs wrapped in paper towels?

Hi!
In a word... No.

I won't go into details about 'who sent what', but I don't think paper towels are 'sufficient packaging' for shipping eggs.

I recieved 2 dozen eggs from a few hours away wrapped in 1 ply toilet paper and put in an egg carton surrounded by shredded newpaper. Many cracked leaky eggs. I got 4 to hatch out of 2 dozen. Only about 7 ever developed but from what ive heard this place had fertility issues at the time.

I would disagree that if the shipping cost more you will have a better hatch not true at all.

Cheap shipping=scrambled eggs~~scrambled eggs=no hatch
Not many people will take a loss on shipping so if the shipping is cheap they are cutting corners. To each their own, but if the shipping is $8 I will take a pass. That is what one charged and I thought wow, until I received the undersized box with 6 scrambled eggs dripping from the box and plastic baggy the eggs were shipped in. I am not that cheap to pay for proper shipping.

There are other factors that may affect hatching rates, so no fair shipping does not guarantee hatching. But broken eggs does guarantees no hatches.

Like I said mine were wrapped in 1/2 of a paper towel, a few newspapers around them, but all sitting in the middle with alot of room in the box....

My only poor hatch came from several dozen eggs that were shipped wrapped in a napkin, placed in an egg carton, then crumpled newspapers stuffed around the carton. Some of the eggs were cracked, many had broken air cells. I had 7 hatch out of several dozen eggs. These eggs were all shipped seperate from each other, so it does seem to matter how well packed the eggs are. I have hatched more from CA to KY eggs than this. Other eggs in same batch hatched as usual. I say...............NO.

1 chick hatched in 48 eggs that were sent in paper towels!!! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

I've never had eggs wrapped in paper towels and I think from now on, I'm going to ask how the eggs will be wrapped for shipping.

The very best wrapping job was from Leon Valley Trading in TX.
The eggs inserted inside foam cushioning. A hole made for each egg. There was a bottom thin layer, then the 4 inch layer that the eggs were inside, then another top thin layer. In the top and bottom there were foam peanuts that had been what was left over from cutting out the holes.

There was NOTHING moving inside that box!

Second best was flat egg cartons. This came from PA. One on top of the other. Each egg was individually wrapped in bubble wrap and inserted inside the flats. The top flat was placed on top of the eggs. Both flats were taped together. Then newspaper was bunched along the bottom of the box, the flat put inside. More newspaper tightly put alongside the sides of the flat, and then packed tightly on top.

Nothing was moving inside that box either.

No broken air cells, no broken eggs and 100% of the eggs are now developing.

I have had eggs packed in bubble wrap surround by more bubble wrap and shreeded news paper and eggs were busted or cracked or scrambled and the shipping was not cheap neither were the eggs.

I even had doubled boxed eggs eggs wrapped in bubble wrap and newspaper and I had busted ones.

Life is not perfect, stuff happens even with the best of packing. This is why when you order shipped eggs you assume a risk. That risk can be avoided somewhat by asking the seller questions. If a seller has high shipping prices and poor packing then better homework is needed.

On a different note I do not feel the need to get in a contest over packing eggs, or any other topic. I offered information and my opinion, you offered yours. I suggest you email the subject who shipped you the eggs and pick a fight with them.
