I am in my first year of raising meat chickens. Recently I was talking to a co-worker who used to raise chickens several years ago. She said she raised ISA browns for eggs and vanta ( spelling could be wrong) chickens for meat. I have never heard of vanta chickens before. She said she bought them from an amish family and that they were good meat birds that didn't have the problems that cornish x do. I raised black broilers to avoid problems but, still had issues with lameness. Has anyone heard of a vanta chicken?

That Vantress breed looks interesting. Does anyone know where you can get them?

I bet she meant vantress and I heard vantras.

Has anyone had experience with raising them? I am looking for a good sized bird that I don't feel bad about raising. How long does it take to get them to a good size? Has anyone noticed heart or leg problems with them etc.?

unfortunately i have never raised that variety of broiler so i can't help ya there!

heck.... vantras/vantress WE knew what you meant!

It is your basic Cornish Rock Cross meat bird that is the industry standard and raised by a lot of the meat bird folks on this forum.

With all the attendant strengths and weaknesses.
