Hatch-Along - Setting eggs week of Feb 4th..anyone else?

I candled last night (day 5, couldn't wait any longer!) and have 8 with veining and 1 with a blood ring. I'd never seen a blood ring and had to look it up to confirm it. But I'm happy that 8 are doing ok since they were shipped!

Soooooo, I just candled. It's day 7. I have 16 with solid veining. I even saw movement in 1!!! He was doing the backstroke!! I have one I think has a blood ring, I will need to do more research to make sure and I have 1 that is infertile. I am bummed about the infertile one because it was an EE egg that was a very very unique cream color. I am going to leave the 2 questionables until day 10 and ill candle again to be sure. The one I suspect to be a blood ring was an extremely large egg that I probably shouldn't have set to begin with, it was large enough to be a double yolk.

But I am totally pumped about my results!! This means that every single one is developing!! In my homemade incubator to boot!!

I was so worried this being my first attempt with reputable eggs(last attempt was with store bought and all but one were infertile and I had one quitter)

I have 42 chick eggs in my hovabator and 7 ancona duck eggs in my brinsea mini...not sure what ill do if they all hatch but most were shipped eggs so we will see..lol...I already have 10 3-week old chicks now.

yeah for sure..lol my hovabator is full! I set over 30 last time and only 11 hatched..one died. so im changing a few methods so see if I have a better hatch rate. I have a variety for sure so it will be I interesting to see the outcome.

How fun you saw one moving! congratulations! I candle every day at this stage, when you can see through the veining to the wiggling embryo, I love it!

Warning! Newbie question!!! Lol

So my little brown egg with white spots just doesn't seem to be doing much of anything. It's really hard to see in because its so dark but I can see in my other brown egg. Today is day six and it still just looks like a bigger yolk inside. The egg is so dark I can't even see the air pocket. So how long should I leave it in the incubator? What should I be looking for in this dark egg besides veins?

If you really can't see into it, leave it. A bigger yolk could easily be a sign of development. Unless the egg begins to smell (then it's definitely bad) leave it in the incubator, it's better to be safe than sorry.
