Did you see any movement? I candled last night and pulled out four, 1 clear, 2 blood rings and one that quit because it had a blood spot. 4 others are questionable~which experience has shown me probably means they are quitters!

I am down to 7 that look favorable and 5 of those have embryos that hang out at the top near the air cell, and when I candle the light scares them and they quickly drop down into the small part of the egg~makes me laugh, it is so funny

This is the worst batch of eggs I've tried to incubate! I recieved my new batch of eggs yesterday in the mail and two were broken, one cracked and most with really bad air sacs!

I now am sure both these batches of eggs I'm incubating have been shipped by air which really screws them up

I understood when I bought them that my chances of a good hatch would be slim, but it still is upsetting when most of your eggs are ending up in the garbage!

Now that has never happened to me. Usually that happens cause the egg is rotten or had been in the incubator and its not fertile. So with Marans is a possibility for sure! I'm lucky that hasn't happened to me. I would hate opening the incubator and facing that smell

I'm so sorry about that!
If it makes you feel better I have a friend down that street that has bought 2 orders of Lavender Silkie eggs and none of the eggs in EITHER batch even formed.

Well... I had one chickie that "ran" away from the light! It was a barnie. Then the others have nice veins with some thing in there. The lemon blues a few of them look ok but I think they might be quiters. Not really sure though. Hubby said if in doubt leave it alone for now. So I did

we rushed because we did not want the temp to drop. I'll candle again in a few days and see what's up then.

Your hubbies right! Better to be safe than sorry

Also gives you peace of mind not wondering if you did the right thing. I'm pretty sure I have some quitters still in the incubator after candling last night, but I feel better waiting and being absolutely sure before I toss them. How many eggs did you start with and how many are left at this point? I have been waiting for my Black Wyandotte rooster to mature and start breeding my Blue Wyandotte hens and he finally is doing his duty, so I am adding some of my eggs to the eggs already set in my incubator

I have all my eggs marked with an "A" on the first eggs I put in, a "B" on the eggs I put in this morning and a "Smiley Face" on my eggs! Oh, and I don't have pictures of LLW's because I just bred for and got a Blue Silver Laced rooster who is almost old enough to breed back to my BW hens and then to lighten the blue to Lavender, I will probably use White Wyandottes. If you want to see a great picture of a LLW pullet, go to Feathersite.com and look under the chicken catagory, then under W for Wyandottes and look for the LLW pullet and you will

when you see her!!!!!

Wishing you good luck! Are these shipped eggs or your own?
Anxious to hear how your candling went

I'm going to do the same tonight too!

The eggs came from my neighbor across the street. Hers lay way more eggs than she can use up so she brings them to me. She has 5 hens and 2 roosters so they should be pretty fertile. Candled this afternoon and found 5 clears. The rest had nice veining and look to be progressing. She has a variety of chickens and it will be interesting to see what hatches.

One of the clears was VERY watery looking. The air space even looked liquid. What causes this?
