I am looking to get some chicks, duckings and goslings this year but I'm not sure from where. I want to be able to pick them up (rather than have them shipped, I'm willing to drive pretty far) and I want a hatchery that treats the birds humanely.

I have found one hatchery that I like but they don't let you take the birds until they are over a week old. I would like to start with very young babies so that they can be as personable with my family as possible.

Thanks for any suggestions!!

Thanks, I'll check it out. Do you have experience with them?

There is no hatcheries that i have found in northern CA. I looked for independent breeders too and couldnt find too much. There is one out in Blue Lake. They own a pumpkin patch too. I cant remember the name of them and since i have relocated to WA i cant give you too much more info. It was the same exit as the casino though if that helps.

For ducks and goslings, you can go to Metzer's in CA or Holderreads in OR.

IF you want show potential, go to Holderreads. However, if you want ducks for egg laying, go to Metzers because you can get the ducklings sexed for an extra charge, allowing you to buy more females than males.

Stamper - no personal experience - I'm new at this - trying to get started but so far no chickens, no coop. One step forward, three back.

But I know that our local feed store gets their chicks from Belt, which is why I mentioned it.

I haven't been out there myself, but a friend of mine brought her 3 year old out to Tina's petting zoo, and he had a blast, he came over afterward and told me all the different sounds the animals made, LOL, So cute... The little Terror!
