I have received good news from our insurance company. The customer service rep I spoke with was very helpful. She said that I would just need to write a letter explaining the medical necessity for the usage of the Mayo Clinic and it was almost sure to be approved. She is even checking to see if there is a way to get travel expenses to the clinic paid by the insurance.
I think the mistake was at the doctor's office or in the translation as English is a second language.
I am waiting now to hear as to what time frame in order get everything set up. My son has an interview with CA Technologies in Plano, TX on April 11th and would like to wait until that is done if it doesn't make a difference in recovery, etc.
Thanks for all the wonderful support.
Very different coloring them I'm use to with mine but that is a female with a head spot...I would NOT breed it though
SusanRenee can you also post that pic on the Legbar thread? I'm curious to see what others would say about the coloring...

That is a male. He is grey, females are dark brown and black. Also, he has a large spot of white and no eyeliner. I still would not breed him though-you want a male that is light in color, while females should be very dark brown with distinctive lighter or chestnut strips, and a dark "eyeliner" running back from her eyes. If he is the only male, use him, but keep us posted as he grows.
Rhodebars are red-he also looks like a Jaerhon female.
I am almost 100% sure it is a male, however, he is a lot darker than he should be.
This is what a Cream Legbar chick should look like-female on left/male on right.

See the grey on the male? Unfortunately, the Legbars we have here in the US are not nearly as correct as they should be, which is why we are getting very dark males. We have to work with what is available, though. This picture is from Emily Degray in the UK. She has some of the top Legbars in the world.
That head spot looks tiny to me and nicely shaped- males are usually more fuzzy looking and larger... Although I was a little perplexed by the color. I still think it's a female. I will be interested to see what it looks like in a few weeks![]()
I have also gotten dark males but never THAT dark, and if you look at the stripes down the back it looks awfully female to me.
Interesting none the less...
The spot on top of his head is small, but there looks like another spot on it's neck. I have gotten two males that were really dark like that and one was culled for a cross beak. The second one I marked so I could watch as he grew. He died this winter at about 8 weeks old, but he was still very dark. I had to look closely to distinguish him from the Barred Rocks that were the same age.
As you say, time will tell.![]()
I would love to see what the other Legbar fanciers say about him/her too.
Just had a thought- maybe it's not a Cream Legbar?? Could we be seeing maybe Silver Legbar popping up?![]()

No one seems to know. Apparently, they left Ohio at 9:30 this morning and missed 10:00 delivery to us (duh!). The flight from Ohio is only 1 and 1/2 hours. They should be at the MN sorting facility!!! But, no scan. No one seems to be able to give me any kind of number for the airport hub. I called the main number, they said there isn't one. My PO tried to tell me no ones there. When I said that I could not accept that that is possible, they he says he has tried to called the supervisor several times and no one answers. I just talked to him again and said that I know there are dozens of live animals more fragile than my chickens at the Minneapolis Airport and I really needed him to find someone who could tell me something. I agree, I KNOW someone is there. I just can't get a number. I KNOW they can bring it out by courier this afternoon or tonight, but I also don't think they will unless I insist. I am frustrated that nobody seems to have kind of phone number. How is that even possible?
First of all, how did you find that?????
We are getting closer. But, this is just a recording with hours and locations. You just keep getting the same recording and no way to get through......

This is one of my males, just out of the box from GFF last summer, very similar.
ProfTi - sorry to hear about your birds. I know it can be frustrating. I'm with Madamwolf, Rhodebar Roo.
I cannot even express my love and admiration!!!! THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!! You probably just saved 20+ birds, I would not have gotten them until tomorrow afternoon..... I talked him. Apprarently, they ship their birds either FedEx or Delta?????? Really?????? Fed Ex????? Anyway.....so Fed Ex has the birds and they have been sitting on the airline cargo dock of Fed Ex (did I mention it's 38 degrees here). He thinks that they will get them from Fed Ex to the USPS receiving desk by 7:30. He is going to pull them and we will be waiting for them there. You guys are all officially my hero's. This was totally breaking my heart. We are taking rescue chick water with to the airport, it is a 20 minute drive and I think they will be OK. Will keep you posted. You guys are awesome!!!!!!
Agreed, could be his twin brother! I was curious to see what everyone thought. I've been coming to the dark male conclusion too. Either way, he's the only one hatched. I will probably use him for an OE project or something, but no CCL breeding for him! I've heard that some of the Greenfire stock is darker. That looks like the exact same chick-do you have a picture of him now?
over a 2000 acre fire burning just east of us.

Holey crap! I hope it's not coming your way. Where is the rain when we need it.
