It's in Oklahoma, where it has rained so much today that the creeks going out to our property where my horses are is flooded and I can't get through to go feed them...my coops are flooded as well and the chickens are all giving me the stink eye, thank God for roosts or they would all be drowned

Poor chickens, hope the water goes down quickly so you can get out to the horses.

Last time I was in FL it rained each evening, at least a small amount. Hopefully this gets put out by some of that salty rain.
I told the fatties tonight to pack their sunscreen and get ready to fly. They just told me Burr Burr Burrrrrr.
This fire is more of a PIA then anything, lots of smoke, ash falling, no outside time for the 2 year old son

You should see their box tomorrow according to the USPS

I
We get rain often, and they are calling for it again on Friday here.

The island we live on is on a dense rock base, with wetlands scattered about. The fire is actually on Space Center property. Between us and the fire is a whole bunch of homes

I saw the homes in the pic. Wild fires are pretty scary stuff. They go where the wind blows and can jump so e pretty big distances. The fighters that work them are pretty amazing.

Well, this latest setting (okay, the one before the last) is looking better. 3 sets of eggs are at 100%. One has 8/15, one is 4 positive, 3 maybe and 3 negative, and one is 7+, 4 maybe and 5 negative and one I don't know, because that set had seventeen eggs...

I'll need MORE stinkin leghorn eggs though. One set is 6 (3 with blown aircells) and the rest bad, the other is 8 good and 7 bad.

I'll call Lannie in the early morning. I'm hoping I can get them on the first truck Thursday morning. It is normally there at 6am, DH leaves our house at 5 to 5:30 am, so it would be easy if they let me ring the bell and drop them off.

They did a controlled burn just north of us last week. Of course controlled turned to uncontrolled and the smoke was horrible. When I first started smelling it I ran outside because I thought our woods were on fire. The smoke got so thick I couldn't even see my neighbors hay field. Hopefully you'll get some wind coming from the west and it will blow the smoke away.

My duck has his own pool in the yard now, he is enjoying it immensely...the turkeys have a coop to go to, but do they? NO! gonna stand out in their yard in the rain, the ding dongs!

Last week we had this, but over the weekend our driveway was under about three feet until I chopped the ice out of the culverts. Stupid me did it backwards and almost went in too. It blew out so fast it shook the ground. Then I took a very long and very hot bath. Our horse pasture is a river right now. Sunday some moron came through in a canoe. Um private property signs are every where.

The ducks and the geese have been having a blast. No crappy kiddie pools can compare.

Oh and that's our horse pasture.

However here is a cool picture taken from mainland looking back this evening at the island

the space center claims it is 75% contained. Now if the wind will calm down for the night they will keep it under control. not the first, not the last.

now if my darn goats would give brirth this century I would be exstatic lol

If you let her know it is pre-paid they are likely to let you do a ring and drop. Sent two labels (one in the pocket on the outside) one inside loose (incase the USPS looses the one on the outside) along with a bunch of zip ties. I zip tied it shut just like I would if birds were in it.

I need some genetics help. I can handle most genetics issues, but I'm not sure about the lavender gene. I have three Easter Eggers that are around 13 weeks old. Two were easily identifiable because they were black and white barred--one with much more white than the other. I knew they were a pair. The third was lavender. Until about two weeks ago when it really grew in its feathers it had looked solid lavender--now it is obvious it is also barred. I can't tell by the EE type comb on it so I don't know if it is male or female. Comb is very red which makes me lean towards cockerel...but it is much more lavender than white which makes me question pullet.

Can someone tell me how the lavender works with the barring genetics?

I also am not sure how the lacing genetics completely play out. While I was searching for a lav orp roo, I had my girls in with a gold laced wyandotte. We hatched out several of those eggs for our own laying pens. All are rose combed like the roo, but are either black or gold/dark brown chipmunked with dark eyeliner. The gold ones all have the larger combs. Will these later show lacing like their roo or be solid like their lav orp mother? I looked for a forum on lacing but couldn't find anything that would really help. I am assuming the blacks will carry the lavender gene, but will the golds?
