I have 1 dozen OEGB eggs ready to go out in the morning but I can not get in touch of the person I was going to send them to, and have no address. If someone is interested in a side swap or wants to buy them PM me. (Please save me from myself. If no one wants them, they are going in my incubator)
Would love to have them, but inkies are full and we will be moving soon.....:hit

I have a hen who is trying her best to hatch golf balls. She's a first time broody, but she's been on them about 4 or 5 days. Do you think it's safe to give her a few eggs?

Depends, how much would you get for baby golf balls?

If she's been sitting them over night then you should be able to slip some eggs under her. Some people do it at night when the hen can't see, but we just lay them next to her and let her tuck em under.

We of course would remove the golf balls cause if they go to long and explode there are rubber bands every where.

For all you orpington people, I have a question. I picked up 2 dozen orpington eggs locally. They were mainly lavenders with a roo or two of lemon cuckoo and a lemon cuckoo hen. Out of 24 eggs, 21 made it to lockdown and so far 16 hatched. 11 hatched out a buff color, 3 lavenders, and 2 dark brown. The brown really surprised me. I've tried to read up on the history of the chocolate ors but didn't find much. From what I found out, these are likely Dun and won't breed true like blues, correct? Here is a picture of the little fuzz butts

Hope you have a good momma there. We have a serial brooder that we just love. Lucy is a dark Cornish and a really good incubator. She is done taking care of those chicks after a few weeks though. Then she eats like a pig for three weeks and one day you walk into the coop, Lucy is in the nest box and I will swear she has a smile on her face. She's super sweet too.

Glad I made you smile.

Love the pic. They are super cute. And I know zilch about the genetic aspects.

She's my favorite hen...she's named after my grandmother lol! I have very fond memories of hanging out with my maw maw and her flock. :) I think Eva will be a good momma. Now I just have to figure out what eggs to give her. Hmmm.

My big fat BBW turkey pet is named Eva. She's my girl. I don't think I ever want her to sit on eggs. Fatty rolled over.....I think I'd just have to ignore her or move the food to another spot to break her. Guess what, you'll be Grandma!

I'm reading all these stories of people that have never gotten a damaged package. I only WISH that were the case for me. About 25% of the time, the package is dinged in somewhere or smashed. About 70% of the time, at least some of the air sacs are wonky. My BEST hatch rate from shipped eggs has been 2/8 and I had my own eggs in there at the same time with a 100% hatch rate.

It makes it exceptionally difficult to get new breeds when they all arrive with wonky air sacs.
