I am with you on the brooder issue - I wont hatch chicks til spring. My DH would have a fit if I had them all in the house for 6 - 8 weeks! I, on the other hand, would think it a world of fun!!

It IS loads of fun. Hubby grumbles once in awhile, but likes to hold them (and he talks to them even though he would admit it to no one!) I have chicks in the living room, in the basement, and in the barn in brooders. I just have a problem moving them out to the barn or out of the brooders in the barn without putting them in an area with a heat lamp. I know my mother raised many many chickens and she never OWNED a heat lamp. They all seemed to do fine.... I think next year I will wait a little later to turn the lights on....

I found the Husky boxes on home depot. Problem is they are only avail. in store and only in certain stores. I am on a page that lets me put in zip codes to see if they are avail. in a store near you.... I will post the url -If it does not work, you can list your zip and I will check for you.....

they are shaped similar to recyle bins that can be stacked also, so you might try looking at Lowes as well for similar boxes.

Good morning! Woke up to 1 more OE hatched and 1 SFH zipping! All the eggs are coated in yolk and blood from the chicks dragging yolk sac around.

I am bidding on some rare chicks from GFF on RBA

The auction doesn't end until tomorrow, but they are my b-day present to myself. Plan on spending part of my b-day doing housework, sounds like fun eh? I also have to shovel out from all that snow! Now I wish I had a shorter driveway!

Some have the brinsea brooder heaters in them. Today I am going to use a couple small red light heat lamps made for reptiles as well (fruckers brand) until the rest of our brinsea heaters come

ah...Ive thought about trying to make some brooder heaters out of reptile heating pads...wonder if that would work
