You helped me make my decision, if they pay for themselves (they are tiny) why not keep and enjoy them.....

Yeah, I have always loved serama. I had to get out of them until they got a new heated barn. I have 2 more silkied serama pairs coming next week I bought from Junebugs.

I have had heat lamps on mine since October... The barn electric bill is now more than the house!

I have several juv. hens now and there are about 3 that I do not know if I can part with.
My only concern now is that with the Spring eggs I have coming, I will have 23 breeds. Keeping separate pens will be an issue unless my husband works faster on all the new runs I want

(I don't think I'll tell him about the spring eggs. If they just filter in a few at a time I'm hoping he wont notice!! He is on a business trip this week and I have set 105 eggs in the incubator (I'm so addicted)

Got my thermostat today! It had an expected delivery date of 2/15, so it arrived with super speed!

It's so much smaller than I was expecting. Now, I'll have to wire a plug in cord to it, figure out how to wire in the heating wire and figure out how to set it up, LOL. Thanks, Donna (I think) for pointing it out. For $14, I don't think you could do any better!

Where do you get the cords? I saw something at Lowes, but it doesn't say anything about prongs, so I don't know if it's a plug or just a wire? I'm thinking for almost $3, it'd be cheaper/easier to just steal a cord off of some piece of junk!

What I did was buy a small extention cord (6 or 8 foot) at Walmart . It was like $2. I cut off the one end and then striped the wires down about an inch

Bad chicken days the last 2 days. Went in the coop yesterday to find my only gold laced orp pullet from GFF dead. Don't know why. Everything else is fine. So there goes my SL orp project I was going to start. It'll be another year for that.
I was waiting on some people that were supposed to come out and look at a pair of chickens, so I guess I was trying to hurry. And being upset about my GLO. I always check and am careful when I put the waterer down in the baby pen, they are quick. Well anyway, guess I was distracted. I killed one of my MF bantam cochins.

Out of all I tried to hatch last year, I only ended up with 2. Thought I had 2 pullets, but tonight when I found HIM, I noticed he was a cockerel.

They were so cute. I mean I still have the one, but now she is by herself. These were my little pets, so friendly. Sometimes I just want to give up.

And to top it off the people never showed up, called or emailed, after emailing me endlessly on Friday. Stupid craigslist people. Ugh
So sorry to hear you had a bad day. I think we all go through one once in awhile but it really hurts when we become attached to them.

I had to cull the cross beaked chick. I had so many die and this fluffed up and was doing well health wise. But he has severe cross beak, missing an eye and the other did not open so not sure there, his head was shaped weird and he could not stand. He was the first I have ever had to cull.

Hello all!

My Mr took me away for the weekend, 28 wonderful child-free hours window shopping in "no touching" stores and eating in "grownup" restaurants.

It was great. I even found this totally nifty little wire cage at an antique shop for $6, it's super simple looking and perfect for transporting just a few chicks.

But now it's Monday. Back to reality. I"m not gonna try to catch up on all the posts! Hope everyone is having a pleasant Monday!

I hope you had fun! I would love to be HUMAN again. Still waiting to go to Outback for my Anniversary Dinner..... not looking good

If they just had NORMAL hours.

I used an extension cord. Just cut off one end and you have a plug and some wiring too if you need it.
