Morning! Snow started already, just a dusting but expecting 24"

Up early and got everyones food and water topped off. I'm thinking of crawling back under the covers for a few hours.
Good morning! It is pouring here, and I am wondering why I woke up at 5:00 AM instead of 6:00.

We had freezing rain this morning and now it's just rain. You can keep that white stuff up your way! Did your peeps make it through the night?

Yes, the 4 made it just fine. 1 more RB popped out and several more RB pips. Hopefully some other GFF breeds soon too. I had set some shipped eggs and despite writing 1/17 on them I "forgot" and thought they were collected then, lol. Suprise, went in to check on my other incubators and there was a rider and a couple of other eggs with pips. Quick transfer to the incubator as the humidity had only been at 40% in the hatcher. Wow, my bad! Haven't heard anything from Jenny as well.

I have yet another RB male chick that hatched with a bum leg. That will make 3 that hatched with a bad leg and has to be put down.

Thats wayyyy too many. There's got to be an issue with the breed or 1 of their breeders that throws these. I've only had the 1 girl so far but I've read that from a couple of different sources now. I'm going back to bed to snuggle in for a couple of hours, might as well take advantage!

Bad thing is I've only hatched 2 males and both had to be put down. At this rate, I will have all females and not a male in sight.

So, DH is back from the interview in CA. I picked up him and the hiring manager from the airport. The hiring manager was super excited and said he will be sending an offer in the next couple of days. So...Yay!
Great news!!

Okay I have a question. What would you do? I sent eggs to someone in southern Oregon. I sent 16 and asked her to keep me updated and gave lots of hatching tips. Didn't hear anything until recently. She emails me today and said that she didn't have any hatch. She said that she had two fully formed that pipped but died in the shell. She then said she had 14 clear

I guess I'm just unsure of what to say or do because I originally said I would replace any clear/unfertile but would like pictures of them which she didn't take. I've shipped eggs all over and have had good hatch rates. I personally get 80-100% at home. I guess I'm just a little wary when someone says that they've had 0% when following good hatching guidelines and claim to be. A pretty experienced hatcher. She's now asking about chicks or pullets. I guess I just don't know what to think. Any thoughts....comments?
Since she didnt take pictures, I would offer new eggs at her shipping expense. Let her know shipping live birds is very expensive and since you are not a hatchery you can NOT offer any replacements if something happens to them during shipment.

Good morning! Finally got a full nights sleep. First time in a week! We got a ton of snow last night, looks like I will probably not have to go into work today! Maybe I will be able to finish my run so I can kick chicks out of the basement!!

I have 2 adult seramas getting shipped to me from OR. They are indoor birds. Should I have her put a heat pack in or will they be OK since they are adults?

Good morning! Got my Ideal order in yesterday, so I still have chicks, even if I'm not hatching any! Had to put them in temporary quarters last night, so must rearrange things this morning. But I like all the peeping. And there are fifty of them, so they'll only stay inside until I get the Juvenile Detention Center set up. Then they're going out! Buff Orps, Dark Brahmas, and Rosecomb Brown Leghorns. I've decided not to get good quality Buff Orps, and just keep hatchery layers of those. I'll get other colors in better quality. Got a lot coming this spring!

Enjoy your day!

from what I understand of that breed yes ask for a good heat pack. If they are house birds and coming your way in this cold rather be safe than sorry.
