Thanks!
If you need a place to stay around Charlottesville, I have a spare bedroom!  and we are dog friendly to chicken friendly dogs! or dogs on leashes, if they arent.
My hatch rate on shipped eggs is alot lower than that unfortunately.  so far only 1 in 14.  so ...um...7%?  LOL...but some of that is the weather when they were shipped, I think.

Perspective, right? Last month my shipped egg rate was closer to 15%, so I guess it is improving! My goal is 50%.
I also think it depends on the breed too.

Quote: Sorry, Laura-I had to laugh at this! Imagine taking a 2 week trip with nothing but chickens and NON-chicken-friendly dogs in a truck?

Today is hatch day for my first batch of eggs that I set. I don't see movement and don't hear anything. When I set them for lock down, I was fairly convinced that some of them were still viable. The bator that I used for lock down spiked ridiculously high. I am pretty sure that if anything made it that far, they died the first night of lock down. I am starting to seriously second guess my plan to start a breeding program. Perhaps just a little depressed by this first attempt and a tad anxious about shipped eggs. Tonight and tomorrow will tell. As is typical with anything I write on here during the day, this post has taken me about four hours to type, so if it is a bit disjointed, please excuse me.

Here is Cricket and Jiminy the new grey dewlap toulouse 3 year old breeders who arrived yesterday. They are from top show lines, with exceptional fertility! Here are our top Buff dewlaps who are 2 years old Hansel and Gretel And Gandalf our 2 year old grey gander The "kids" (yearlings) were all too busy off grazing for photos this morning
Celtic, they are so gorgeous. I keep visiting the geese, turkeys, and ducks at the feed store. My youngest keeps begging for a turkey. The baby geese talk back to me when I talk to them. So cute.

I think this trip would be just about the coolest thing ever! I wish you were coming my way! Seriously fun chicken railroad. Should I send your next box to take along?

Hey everybody! 1 week until I start my trip!! Looks like I am going to be moving ALOT of chickens around this trip! I hope the weather clears up for this trip!! OK could everyone I am meeting send my your phone number and address where I am meeting you. I will call and let you know when I should be to you based off my GPS. I am sleeping in my truck so should get further each day then I originally thought. Please label carriers with BYC name of person receiving. I am worried I will get something mixed up! Here is a pic of my truck, so if we are meeting you can find me!

Older chicks will be in the bed, I will have some room in the cab for youngsters, but I travel with three border collies so space will be limited! I can't wait to meet everyone!
