So what's the probability that my 1 week to 2 month old chicks will survive 36-48 hours in  the mail?

They won't let you go pick them up? That's just stupid. I go to the airport in Madison and pick up stuff once in a while. We've never had an issue. Even had other people pick up for me without a problem.

express mail can take 2 full days of travel and should always be planned for it to take 2 days of travel. Over night happens OFTEN, but they travel for 2 days just fine. We had goslings go missing for 2 days last year from us here in FL to TX. All arrived just fine, even though they were late (very late)
Even ones that are not day old?

I had a box of birds come in once - had two 3 month olds and two 2 month olds on one side and eight 2 week olds on the other. Would have taken 4 days if I had not intervened and drove an hour to the postal hub. So after 36+ hours from ship time to my pick up, the older ones were all fine. Four of the younger chicks didn't make it. Keep trying to find a way to intervene.

I have received good news from our insurance company. The customer service rep I spoke with was very helpful. She said that I would just need to write a letter explaining the medical necessity for the usage of the Mayo Clinic and it was almost sure to be approved. She is even checking to see if there is a way to get travel expenses to the clinic paid by the insurance.

I think the mistake was at the doctor's office or in the translation as English is a second language.

I am waiting now to hear as to what time frame in order get everything set up. My son has an interview with CA Technologies in Plano, TX on April 11th and would like to wait until that is done if it doesn't make a difference in recovery, etc.

Thanks for all the wonderful support.
I am very glad to hear that and I hope they will get the travel expenses covered too. I hope the timing works out for you too.

If you want to read the symptoms. Basically, day 1 they are acting normal. Day two they are walking stiff and seem to be sedated, then day three I wake to them dead.

Where are the birds right now? the twin Cities hub or the air port?
No one seems to know. Apparently, they left Ohio at 9:30 this morning and missed 10:00 delivery to us (duh!). The flight from Ohio is only 1 and 1/2 hours. They should be at the MN sorting facility!!! But, no scan. No one seems to be able to give me any kind of number for the airport hub. I called the main number, they said there isn't one. My PO tried to tell me no ones there. When I said that I could not accept that that is possible, they he says he has tried to called the supervisor several times and no one answers. I just talked to him again and said that I know there are dozens of live animals more fragile than my chickens at the Minneapolis Airport and I really needed him to find someone who could tell me something. I agree, I KNOW someone is there. I just can't get a number. I KNOW they can bring it out by courier this afternoon or tonight, but I also don't think they will unless I insist. I am frustrated that nobody seems to have kind of phone number. How is that even possible?
