Tell me they paid you shipping. I was under the impression that if someone claims chicks, they pay the shipping or difference in shipping dependant on how many swaps they've claimed from you.

Something I've been thinking about, I'm not trying to start a fight, but I would like some honest feedback. Please don't bash me. It's ok if you don't like my ideas. I'm just hoping for some open discussion on this.

Per the established swap rules, the person offering is responsible for shipping whether they offer eggs or chicks. Offering to ship six chicks does not seem to be an equitable trade off to offering six eggs. May I propose that we change the rules a bit?

- If a 50% hatch is considered good for shipped eggs, would it be fair to offer 3 chicks?

- I also propose that those offering chicks be allowed (but not required) to wait to ship until the same swapee claims two or more chick swaps?

- Can the claimer be responsible for reasonable shipping fees? For example, I shipped chicks a couple of weeks ago. Shipping was $35. If I had shipped eggs, shipping would have been around $10. In this example, I would ask the swapee to cover an additional $15.

If these proposals are acceptable, I would still suggest the first offer be either PP or 6 eggs available in two weeks or less with chicks only as additional offers.

I have often wondered about people offering chicks instead of eggs. I believe COF offers to hatch the eggs for you - if you will pay the shipping price of the chicks. That seemed more fair than offering chicks and shipping them at the higher cost out of the swapper's pocket.

For some Hatch-a-holics (NOT mentioning any names) they might choose to simply offer the chicks they have hatching with a request for the claimant to cover the difference between the PP posted that they claimed and the actual shipping cost? I know on some of the chicks claimed earlier this year if I could have played then I would have been happy to pay the difference in cost to get those chicks shipped to me. Or perhaps those chicks could be offered as a side swap in the chat thread - so the shipping costs could be covered that way?

However, as the rules are now - the swapper is responsible for paying shipping - egg or chicks. I didn't see where you could ask for extra money to ship the chicks... so most people would not offer chicks because of the extra cost.

Perhaps offer eggs and put in the offer that you can hatch out those eggs and whatever hatches can be sent for the additional charge? I would say the swapee must agree to the cost before any eggs were set for them... and live chicks have more value than eggs... except shipping live chicks is still a gamble just like eggs are.. nothing would be guaranteed if the chicks died in transit either.

Trying to keep track of how many chick swaps a person has claimed is just too confusing. There is no way to ship just 3 chicks unless you grow them out and some of us just aren't willing to do that. You don't have to offer chicks. And if you do you can put in there that the claimer needs to pay half the shipping. I've found that most don't mind doing that since they are getting chicks. If I exchange someone's eggs for chicks, I let them know they won't be getting the same amount of chicks as the eggs they claimed. They get less chicks, more along the lines of hatching rates. There is some room to expand on the rules. Just make sure you post it in your offer. If people don't like it, they don't have to claim it.

I thought a swapper could offer chicks and stipulate that the shipping was covered by the claimee?

Really, how many chicks should be up to the swapper. I dot think a 3 chick minimum is a bad idea, but it would be kind of hard to work out all the small details in the rules to protect everyone.

I think just including it in the offer would be best. If I offered chicks, I would pay shipping, unless I state in my offer that claimer pays additional shipping costs. I would gladly claim chicks and pay additional shipping on things I have a hard time hatching.
I also feel chicks can get expensive. I would want to ship them asap. I don't want to grow something out then ship it. That is alot of responsibility and is much like throwing money in the toliet and flushing it.
I personally am just not sure adding chicks to an offer would be worthwhile. Unless your someone who has sexlinks or EE's you hatch all the time, that you can add to an order of 3 chicks... I hope you see where I am going with this.


**Side note.
It really pays to pay your bills on time and when paying for things like a truck or car, paying over the amount due (like rounding it off). All of our companies we owe bills to are happy to wait a week or two for their payments. Also changed the DH's check so that it will deposit into another account next week.
I still feel like drama central, so will be happy when our household account is unfrozen and everything is back to normal. After feeling like I was having a mini stroke this morning, I'll be tickled purple if nothing else happens for a long time.
I had bids on eggs on Facebook and ebay. Got outbid on ebay, PM'd the person on FB. Lucky for me they understood and has had it happen to someone in their family.

I personally would be more than willing to pay shipping costs on chicks in place of eggs with the abysmal hatching rates that I have had since January. I think we should leave the rules as is, and the person offering chicks should put in the offer that additional postage is to be paid by swappee.

As a matter of fact, if anyone owes me multiple egg swaps and is a hatchaholic that enjoys shipping chicks feel free to offer me that option by PM. LOL

That is just my two cents worth, which is worth about that much even with today's exchange rates.

Do Rachael or I owe anyone Basque eggs? I have a ton of them to send out today, but I don't have anyone down in my list for them. I don't have Rachael's list though, and she is getting her treatment today so I can't talk to her.

CPL owes me a set of serama from the WYGS and I won a "guess the chick" contest on march 9th, my birthday!
