I was due to hatch six test eggs on the 5th. One died on day 8 for unknown reasons. Another, I murdered, because I thought it was dead. It had what looked to me, like a bacterial ring, but turned out to be weirdly formed blood veins instead. Now, I'm past the due date, so I opened another to see what may have caused the late hatch, and the chick still had egg yolk not absorbed. I murdered one for the sake of education, I guess you could say! (why won't anyone do that with a bigfoot?) I have three test eggs left; all are past due and still alive. They are rocking, but nothing else.
I tried two identical therms; one was at 99.5 the whole time, but the other was about 89.5. Now I know which therm to use on my next batch. Humidity was not a problem. I have a turner and a fan in the bator.
I also have 18 other eggs, I purchased after the six showed signs of developing good, and all but one of those are thriving well. The other was clear, so not fertile.
Waiting to see what today is going to bring. The test eggs are from RIR hens and an EE rooster. My other eggs are due next Wed.
Also, I built a home-made bator my daughter is currenty using and they are due Sat. I'm really looking forward to her hatch, so I can see how the home-made bator is working! If it does good, I'll share my plans. It was really easy to build.
